Bare with me... getting my 10g ready for a pair of blue rams...need help

My tap water that I tested today has a ph of 7.2, however back when I had the jungle strips it showed we had hard water....
I know the GBR's like the lower ph with soft water..... is there something I can do to make my tap water okay for them?
I am getting my substrate for them, plants, peat? that I read you put in the tank tomm....
Do I need to go ahead and buy spring water for that tank? its just the 10g so its not like it will be a huge deal to have extra gallons sitting around for it..
I want to make sure the water is perfect for them before I purchase them... that means getting the old substrate out (its snail infested and I want to get different substrate for the GBR's) and cleaning my aritficial plants to remove snail eggs (its the infested tank) So I want to get rid of any chance of having a snail infestation w/ my gbr's.....
The filter is cycled so I am guessing I should leave well enough alone??!! The nitrites are -0- in the tank right now however its full of guppies and adf's and I am delivering them to one of my moms friends tomm....

I have heard to leave the Ph alone. take a really long time to aclumate them to the tank but they will adjust to the water hardness. I have been told the less chemicals you use the better. I would just use prime for the tap water and not alter it any more than that.

What kind of filter do you have? Will you be able to use peat? Place it in a bag maybe in the filter? Use drift wood, and just let the ph alone. If you do use peat test at least once a week, because it will wear out and need to be replaced, but this should do great for keeping it naturally a little lower.

Thanks.. I have some driftwood for the tank, I went yesterday and got my stuff to set it up, and I have it done and running now, w/ new plants and all....
I will post a pic soon! I didn't like the idea of black sand about a month ago, but that is what I got and I am so glad I did the tank looks cool!
