Slow leaking tank need to switch out

My 5g is slowly leaking so i bought a 10g last night to switch off too. Im planning on using the old filter and old gravel plus some new gravel to make up for tank size. I use prime for my water changes that i do 15-20 once or twice weekly. I last did a WC 2 days ago. Also i figured i could use all the tank water from the 5g and add the extra. That it would just be like a 50% water change. Does this sound like a good plan or do i need to make sure i do something else as well? I currently have the 5g crowded with 3 small platys, m/betta and a dwarf frog.

I was planning on getting a new/bigger tank soon so this is good. I also am thinking of getting a devider but im not sure because they all seem to get along fine. The frog and betta sleep together in the cave alot. Im learning as i go so i wouldnt be upset if i was told im doing it horribly wrong.

Should be just fine as long as you make the swap fast IE don't let the filter shut down long. You could also to be on the safe side, pick up some live plants and put them in the 10g and they would happily absorb any mini cycle that may happen.

Thanks alot. Im gonna do the switch today. The 5g has 2 betta plants that i will transfer. One has grown very big and takes up a big portion of the tank. I could get some other plants as well now since they will have more room. I seen some at Petsmart the other day for around 3 bucks. How do you keep them secured to the bottom?

I will let you know how the swap goes.

Finished the transfer and think it went well. The filter was out of the water for only a second before it went in the new tank. The platys are swiming around exploring and enjoying the new space. Even the frog is looking around. I stil have a bit of stuff that needs to settle but its slowly getting clearer.

I may take a trip to lps later today or tomorrow and see about some plants and maybe a bridge for the betta. This hobby takes all my money.

I think you're preaching to the choir with that one.

Glad to hear everything went well with the swap! Good luck with it.
