Prime question

I was curious about the Seachem product Prime. Ive been using it in one of my tanks to help to detoxify the Nitrate.

My question is while using Prime will the nitrate still show up on tests, and how often should I treat the tank?

Re: Prime question

Use it just like you would any other dechlorinator. I believe everything still shows when you test. Does the bottle have any information on it.

Re: Prime question

Yes using Prime will not effect your tests much at all, especially for nitrate. You do not treat your tank but rather the water that you are adding to the tank. It's 2 drops per Gal of water being added to the tank.

Re: Prime question

The bottle doesnt say anything about effecting tests results, but does say it detoxifies, not removes. So I figured theyd still show up, but its nice to be reassured.

Ive been adding directly to the tank after changes rather than before each add . Hope thats not bad. The bottle just says that it may be added directly, but is more effective if added first... guess Ill have to remedy that.

Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Prime question

I personally would add before or as you add water. Don't want to take any chances with the chlorine.

The only reason I said that it won't effect the test results "much" is because the bound up ammonia and nitrite sometimes stick around longer (i.e. they take longer to be eaten) then normal ammonia and nitrite. So you will sometimes get lingering ammonia levels in your tank when really there aren't any (i.e. it's just the left over bound up ammonia thats slowly being eaten).
