Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Adding a Severum?

I would like to get a small gold severum to add to my 46 gallon tank which aready had 3 big angels, some platies, swordtails, and betta, will this start any trouble? I've had Gold and Green severums in the pass but they had there own tank at the time. I found the gold severums to be more mellow than the green ones, that's why I figure I might try adding one to my tank.
Any opinions?

It will grow to be six to twelve inches and will likely eat anything it can fit in its mouth. Depending on the individuals you have among your platies and betta, this could be one of them. If all of them are particularly large individuals, it seems that they might actually do okay, though.

Hello. I have moved your thread to the Aquarium Stocking Questions section of the forum.
Thanks!

I agree with what sirdarksol said but otherwise I think the severum would be fine. I don't agree that the gold ones are more mellow. It can vary depending on the fish. My dad has a tank with a green and a gold severum in it and the gold one is constantly bullying the green one.

I've never had a Severum eat another fish yet. The fish would practically have to swim into the Sevs mouth for it to bother eating it. They don't like to spend much energy chasing thier food around. Having said that, I don't think it would be a good idea with your neons as they are likely to be on the menu for an extra aggressive or hungry Sev. Your Guppys would be the next on the list or equal to the neons as they are slower & easier to catch. Not sure but I think I read once that Angels & Sevs shouldn't be kept together as the Sev will take a strong dislike to the Angels. That could just be my feeble memory playing tricks on me though.
