Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Ayye! I'm currently making a stocking list for my future 30 gallon; I want to get a few very colorful fish (non-schooling) I dont want any more small fish like neons and such. I am looking for possibly certain cichlids? or other fish that may no be so common (ive heard of the eel tailed catfish-catfish...probably means it would get too big) any ideas would be appreciated!

are there any types of oscars that stay smaller? (I love albino tigers looks)

There are different types of gouramis that get large and very pretty.

I've never heard of small or dwarf oscars. They need about 75g.

ya i was thinking about getting a firey looking gourami (dwarf) I currently have a 3 spotted (normal sized) gourami in my other 30 gallon and he is aggressive to other gouramis. Do you think I could have 2-3 dwarf gouramis together if introduced at the same time? maybe a fire gourami, a powder and another pretty one? Also I was thinking maybe 1 angel fish (read they are bad in groups). and ofcourse an RTS! what do you think of those ideas?

You may get away with 2 dwarf gourami in 30g if they have lots of plants and hiding ares. Adult RTS need a minimum 55g because they are such active swimmers, so that may not be the best choice for this tank. Sometimes gouramis and angels have issues together - others will likely have more opinions on this, but I'm reluctant to recommend it.

30g would be great for a lovely pair of angels (without the gouramis).

I'm sure others will be along with more input on gouramis and angels in one tank.

Take a look at Apistogramma cacatuiodes-super red - they are dwarf cichlids and absolutely gorgeous plus they have stunning colouring and come to the front of the tank to see me

I like diggly's idea or look into Bolivian rams or keyholes.

i dont think it would be a good idea to house them together they could get aggressive but that fish is very beutiful

EDIT: a pair of angels would also make a great tank.

I have 3 gouramis and 2 of those fish (1m 1f) in the same tank with no problems. Then again I have a 125g tank. I think with alot of caves it might be doable but like they say its down to the fish - some are fine and others are just a pain no matter what you do!

Kind of like people
