Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Is this the 20g tank in your aquarium info? If so, I'd say you're pretty well stocked as it is, and would not recommend adding a shark.

If not, can you be more specific with regards to tank size and what you mean by "cichlids"? Cichlid refers to an entire family of fish, which range from relatively docile to extremely aggressive. Some would work with a rainbow shark, some would not.

Hello John. I personally prefer to see the Rainbow and Red Tail Sharks in 55g's or more with lots of hiding places. They can be very territorial and aggressive especially towards smaller fish. They will chase some larger ones as well. Any time you're considering a territorial species it's best to add them last but this doesn't always solve the territory issues.

it is for the 20 gallon tank...i forgot to say they are african cichlids...i think malawi mbuna..but im not sure on the specific type of african cichlids...
is there any fish that would do well in this tank? they are small..and if they get too big i will get a larger tank...so i just wanted to know if there is any species that goes well with them..but usually the answer is best keep the cichlids by themselves...do you agree? or is there any fish i could add? thnx

I have malawi cichlids, usually they suggest a larger/longer tank for them. And yes, mostly they go with other cichlids with the same general disposition. My Demasoni are best kept in large groups. You may want to find out what kind they are. As they get older they may get more aggressive. I Do have upsidedown catfish and they are fine.
