Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Is my tank size going to be ok?

I have a 225 gallon tank and would appreciate any advice on if it will work out for my fish. I have an 8" silver arrowana, 4 oscars 5", 1 small cat, 1 pleco, and I use two FX-5 filters?

Welcome to Fishlore, Power_0001! I'm not too familiar with arrowana and I have no experience with oscars, so I'll let another member respond to your question, but we're glad you're here!

Welcome to FishLore!

I think you may get more answers if this thread was in the stocking section of the forum. Perhaps we can get a moderator to move it?

Also, a useful site for stocking is the http://aqadvisor.com/AqAdvisor.php You can choose your criteria and it will tell you if the tank will work out. I don't have much experience with those fish, but I have to say that 225g will not be enough room for your fish. One Oscar requires 75g when they are adults. They grow fast and will be 12 inches a piece before you know it. 75x4=300 (75 gallons per Oscar and 4 Oscars). I haven't even added inthe Arowana, Catfish or Pleco...

The small catfish may be in danger of being eaten if it doesn't get fairly large & grow fast. I think you may have some some issues with the Arrowana. That is a seriously BIG fish. Most Arrowana get to about 40inches or even more & have a temperament that will make the Oscars cower in the corner. I'm not sure that the tank is even big enough for a full grown arrowana. There are probably others that could better inform you of that. The four oscars with the Plec would be fine in your tank with no arrowana or if the tank turns out to be big enough maybe just the arrowana by itself. They certainly won't be able to be kept together for very long.

Welcome to Fish Lore Power! I agree with Nutter. I think eventually your Arrowana is going to need more room (however he may do fine in your 225 for a good while). Everything else looks fine to me. I hope you can share some photos of your fish and tank with us. It sounds great!

Hi Power and Welcome to Fishlore!

I'd advise that you either keep the Sil. Arowana alone or return it somehow. Because Silvers can grow very large and long, as more than 40 inches as Nutter mentioned. You could get a smaller arowana, the Red, Yellow or Pearl. They don't grow as large as the Silver. You could have 1-2 oscars with the arowana but as long as the oscars aren't small enough to fit into the aro's mouth. You'll also have to keep up with your daily-weekely water changes as maintaining these fish can be a challenge. Hope to see photos along the way at whatever fish you choose

Good luck!

Hello and thanks I am going to do some thinking on my fish community size

Hello I hope to load some photos soon I just joined 1 day ago and really like the forum, thanks again

Hello. Since there was no response between your posts I've merged them for you. There is an "edit" key at the bottom of every post for corrections and or additional thoughts (should there not be any immediate responses) that you can use in place of creating a new post. Just a tip
Thanks!
Ken
