| How do the following fish sound for a 46 gallon freshwater aquarium? This is what I want my aquarium to have-
8 Bosemani Rainbows (Already Have 4)
1 Dwarf Gourami (Already have the 1)
6 Cory Cats (Already Have all 6)
8 Tiger Barbs
6 Harlequin Rasboras
4 Bleeding Heart Tetras (Already have these but will not be replacing when they die)
1 Rubber Pleco (Already Have it)
Tell me what you think!
Also any tips about keeping Tiger barbs and Harlequin Rasboras would be great! I have researched alot but any extra tips are always helpfull! Last edited by EmmanuelJB; November 8th, 2009 at 09:36 PM.

| With good filtration and diligent water changes, I think this can be done. Be sure to add the tiger barbs last to avoid territorial scats |

Does anyone else have any thoughts about the set up? Hello. I've merged your posts to save some space. There is an "edit" key at the bottom of every post for corrections, too it can be used for additional thoughts if you haven't received any responses.
Thanks!

| Hi Emmanuel. The stocking list looks great. But I'd suggest only getting 6 tiger barbs instead of 8. And you can add two more bleeding heart tetras to make them happier as all tetras prefer to be in a school of at least 6. Good luck and update us with photos |

| Well once the bleeding hearts die I am not planning on replacing them so I don't really want to get more. Plus when I had 6 of them they didn't school anyway. Also the tiger barbs would probably be less likley to nip my other fish when in a larger school.
I thought I would add some pics of what the aquarium currently looks like!
I will get better pics when the aquarium is finnished! Last edited by Shawnie; November 9th, 2009 at 07:31 PM.

| Beautiful! Ever tried your hand at live plants? Just asking. Nice tank! |

| Nope. I have thought about trying live plants but it just seemed like an extra thing to worry about. Is it hard to keep live plants? I am thinking about trying some live plants in my 10 gallon divided betta aquarium to see how it goes. That would be a simple way to see if I like the look and if I want to care for an extra thing. If I do try it in the 10 gal and it works out I would probably put some in my 46 gallon to replace the fake ones. Last edited by EmmanuelJB; November 9th, 2009 at 07:34 PM.

| I personally think live plants are a lot of work. More work than the fish are at any stage of the set-up. I like having live plants as I want my aquarium to be as natural as possible but over 90% of my handling with the tank is caring for the plants and I've yet to reach the point where I can just let them be, if there is such a thing. |

| I like my moss balls. They look awesome, fish like them, and they take zero effort to stay plush and green. One or two would look cool in a little ten gallon. |

| A few days ago I got the tiger barbs and Harlequin rasboras! One of the rasboras isn't doing well its fins seem like they are a little nipped at and Im not sure if there is anything I can do for it. It is the only one like that. I hadn't seen him for a day and I thought he had died but now he is back schooling with the others and is swimming fine. Do u think it will be alright??
Anyway here are some pics of my new tiger barbs rasboras and bosemanis!
Harlequin Rasbora-
Tiger Barbs-
Bosemani Rainbows-
Pics of entire tank coming soon! Last edited by EmmanuelJB; November 18th, 2009 at 09:33 PM.

| Also I am planning on adding peat to all of my filters since my water is hard. I know that a change in pH is hard on fish so will adding some peat to the filter harm or kill the fish in my 46 gallon? How often should I change the peat? Would everytime I change the filter cartrige be good enough? |

| My $0.02 - considder dwarf neon rainbows instead of the extra boses. An endearing quality of rainbows is that they'll school with other rainbows. Bosemanis get big, and not just in length.
I agree that the tigers wll be less nippy at 8 than at 6. My advice from experence wth tiger barbs is that the school needs a couple large mature females to mantain order and handle sexually maturing males, ESPECALLY if you have more males than females in the school.
What do you have planned for the hex?? |

| I wouldn't add peat... the fish can adapt to different pH's and it would only stress them to have it fluctuating from the peat. |

| For the hex the only thing I am sure of right now is that I want some angel fish. Im not sure of anything else I want. |

| Also Bosemani Rainbows only get a maximum of 3 inches. I have also never heard or the dwarf neon kind. |

| The dwarf neon rainbows are excellent fish! I would suggest them aswel
I have a bosemani rainbow that is pushing 3.5 inches and ive seen them at 5 inches at the local zoo, however this was in a massive tank. |

My LFS has some full grown ones, and I'd be concerned about putting them in a 55. They probably will only top at at 3 in a tank of your size, but they'll be stunted. Last edited by Jaysee; November 19th, 2009 at 11:16 AM.

| I just realized that the neon kind are the same as the praecox kind and they also have a max size of 3 inches. |

| Well on petco.com, liveaquaria.com, and on the fishlore fish articles they all say max of 3 inches. I prefer bigger fish anyway so I wouldn't mind them getting bigger. I just hope the bio load doesn't get too high! |
