28 Gallon Bowfront

Hi! I was just wondering if my 28 gallon bowfront is stocked alright. It currently has:

5 Mickey Mouse Platys
6 Neon Tetras
1 Dwarf Gourami

Am I fully stocked or is there room for anymore? If so, what other fish can I add?

Hi switty22...I think you can have a nice school of cories for the bottom....I love the bowfronts...can you share some pics sometime?

Ooo that sounds like a really fun tank. You might check out a band of 6-12 pygmy corydora catfish or otocinclus for the bottom.

Welcome to Fishlore, Switty22! I agree with some cories. They make very active bottom dwellers.

Your tank is beautiful and I love your avatar.

Would I have to get at least 6 cories (and what type of cory)? I just don't want the tank to be overcrowded...

Any cory that stays under 2 1/2" IMO. False juliis, panda, sterbai, pick out a type of cory you like that's available to you and we'll be happy to let you know if it will overstock your tank.

Rosie is a cutie! I love bulldogs.

I went to my LFS today looking for pygmy cories but they don't sell any. I did see Panda Cories though. Would 6 of these be too many for my tank?

I LOVE panda cories! 6 is a wonderful school for the bottom of your tank. I really hope you can post pics of them. They're so cute!

Thanks For all the advice everyone!

Ok, a couple more questions (for now lol). Is it best to get all 6 at once or slowly introduce groups? And, do they have a different diet than the rest of my fish? Thanks again!

Since your tank was set up in September, my advice would be to add them 3 at a time. That will help prevent your tank from going into a mini-cycle.

As far as food goes, I feed mine Ken's cory fish food and alternate with an algae wafer. Other members may have more suggestions as well

Sorry for all the questions but I just thought of something. I have gravel in my tank. Will that be too rough for Cories? Would it be better to maybe add a top layer of smoother stuff or will they be ok?

Please don't apologize for asking questions. that's what the forum is for

I use gravel in my tank that I have corys in and don't have any problems.

Is it large, small, sharp? The biggest concern with corys is that the gravel isn't sharp. Their barbels are a bit delicate, but mine have never had any problems.

Non-sharp gravel should be okay as what bb said I see in the photo that you have black gravel, you could get lighter colored cories or some albinos. It'll really make them stand out Good luck!

I went back to my LFS and they don't have the Panda Corys anymore (or so I thought they had some). Been calling all the closest pet stores and they don't have any either. I'm thinking about ordering some online but the shipping costs are a bit much. Too bad because I think they are so cute!
