Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Anyone have any suggestions for a community tank? :)

I'm out of ideas and I'm just about ready to stock! I think it's funny that I had all these ideas while my tank was cycling and now that it's done I have nothing.

I want colors. I know I'll probably put some tetras in there, but what else would make it look snazzy?

I attached a picture for you guys to see how it looks as of right now. I used flash because the non-flash pictures were turning out blurry.

How about guppies (males)? . But I am not sure they will get along with tetras. Or mollies? Paradise gouramis are nice looking too. Have you considered a cherry shrimp or two? I heard they are fun to watch. I a going to get some for my 29g

I think I'm going to go with tetras (which I've already bought half of, and they're glowlights), a dwarf gourami, panda cories, and I'm going to order an olive nerite snail so I can have a snail that won't eat my plants. The cherry shrimp sounds like a good alternative to the snail though. Thanks Click.

Cherry barbs are pretty colorful as well.

Can't you have both a snail and a cherry shrimp? As far as I know the shrips don't add to the tank population.

You're right. People generally don't consider shrimp to be an addition to bioload, since they are pretty efficient cleaners. A large enough colony would probably have a significant bioload, but most don't have to worry about that.

Thanks guys, I will consider the shrimp. The only thing is I'm getting cories so they kind of already cover some of the cleaning.

Filter shrimp will help prevent algae growth if that's a concern for you. From what I understand they eat the algae spores in the water before it has a chance to settle and colonize. The cory's won't do that. But don't get the shrimp if you really don't want them, afterall, you will have to take care of them.
