Stocking an 80g

Hey guys
I am so incredibly ill right now it's not even funny. So, I have lots of time on my hands, and need to distract myself from being so sick for so many days. I was thinking about my 80g, which is currently fishless. I thought I'd try something new, and was looking for some ideas.
Here's what I've come up with so far:
Bichir/ropefish tank, but I don't know what fish could live with them and not get eaten.
Big school of cardinal tetras, plus one or more bottom dweller
Mollies, bottom dwellers, maybe some other fish
Any ideas? What do you think a good combination is for a 80g FW tank?

Feel better Pink!
What about a BW tank with Mollies, guppies, and a Dragon Goby?

I don't really have an interest in keeping cichlids, but thanks

Can you keep guppies in BW? Ooh, you know what would be cool is Knight gobies! They're so awesome.

They'd have to be acclimated over time, but yes - they can be kept in BW. The mollies & gobies would have to be acclimated over time as well as they are usually sold as FW.

For something completely different how about some archer fish?
Or how about a Siamese Tiger, (Datnoides Quadrifasciatus),? Though that could be slightly too big for an 80. They get to about 12inches.

Interesting. When I had mollies I kept them in brackish, just slow acclimation. I hadn't thought to try moving my guppies up though.

I don't think my tank is big enough for either of those fish.

I like the idea of doing a tank with bichirs. I saw some awesome ones at my LFS the other day. I know that you said that you are not interested in cichlids, but many large cichlids are good tankmates for bichirs. You could also do a large school of rainbowfish (one of the larger ones such as boesmani). They would probably move fast enough to avoid getting eaten by the bichirs.

A little off subject... I haven't been on the forum for a few weeks so I probably missed it, but what happened to Garth and Stachi? I hope you feel better soon!

I'll look into it

Here's the thread Tragedy and bliss mixed...
Stachi is living with us in the apartment in a 30g.

75 glofish! Okay, just kidding. Actually, if I had an 80 gallon tank I would probably do a pair of Oscars.

Pink, hear's another idea just off the top of my head...

A school of rainbowfish (you could mix red rainbows, turquoise rainbows, and boesmani rainbows) and a large school of cories for the bottom level.

Can you tell I love rainbowfish

Haha. I haven't really ever looked into rainbowfish. Maybe I should

Unless it's a tall 80gal then it is plenty big enough for those fish. They both stay under 10inches. There are a couple of variants that get a bit bigger but if your careful about getting the right species then absolutley no problem at all. Archers can make a mess thuogh if you leave the lids off so they can shoot down bugs. You would need to prepare for that.

The article here lists the minimum as 100g. Other places I've seen it as 120. But thanks

Thank you Ken
