Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

What fish are mid to bottom dwellers?

I'm not sure if this is a stocking question but, what would be a good fish to add to a 15 gallon aquarium that occupies the middle to bottom region of the tank? I have a molly and a platy and and 2 danios, and they chill more towards the top of the tank; I just want to 'balance out' the look of the tank. I wanted to try a rosy barb, but I've read that they need to be in a school and I can't handle that many more fish in the tank. Also, I wanted to get a Clown loach since I read how animated they were, but they are said to grow really big, and I can't handle that either.

Any Suggestions?

thanks!

Neon Tetras

Clown loaches need a much bigger tank then 15 G and need to be in groups of 5 or more.

Clown plecos are small, but too big for a 15 IMO.

You could get a few more danios to fill out the school and a dwarf gourami.

Not Clown Plecos, Jaysee. Clown Loaches. And I agree they grow real big, seen them myself. I'd add 4 more Danios since they prefer to be in a school of 6 or more. All my opinions.

Ooops. I think the only clown that will fit in that tank is a killi.

You could go with an otto, or possibly 3 corys or kuhlies, but like said above, danios prefer a lager school.

Mollys are also large waste-producers, I've read, so you want to consider that before deciding to overstock. 6 danios, a molly, a platy, and 3 corys or kuhlies would be way too much for your 15 gallon, probably.

I had aggression problems with my danios when I had 2. Getting 4 more helped a lot, but my danios still can be bullies. If you are having bullying issues like I did, I'd definately recommend getting more danios.

Why don't you try Dwarf rainbows(aka;Praecox,Neon,Peacock rainbows) Nice colourful non aggro little fish, but they are shoaling and you must keep a balance between male and female. E.G, 5 either all male or all female, 6/ 3 of each. Good luck

They're small, but not that small. IMO a 30" tank is the minimum. I've kept a small school of them in a 20H - it's just not enough room for them to play their rainbow games. My current school is a 2m/6f split.

Great upper level schooling fish though - I recomend them to everyone.

OP is looking for bottom dwellers.

Seems most of those suggestions are either catfish or surface fish.
I would be looking at the various Tetra species or Rasboras for a mid to bottom dwelling fish that can fit into a 15gal. Just watch your final stocking level though as you don't have much room to work with & tetras & rasboras are shoaling species that you really need at least 6 of. Preferably 8 or more really.

Cherry Barbs swim in the mid region of the tank. Mine do mid to bottom. They are a schooling fish though and grow to about 2" or less.

Okay, I said "...possibly 3 corys or kuhlies, but like said above, danios prefer a lager school." I didn't say and, but, but. That way it wont be overstocked.

I know. I didn't mean offense, I was brainstorming.
