| Help with my 35gall stocking! Hey about a week ago i upgraded to a 35 gall i want a school of 5-8 smaller fish (1-1 3/4''?) that come in pretty colors. And I was thinking maybe 1 bala. (at my LFS balas they sell start at about 3"). Please help me with some advice! thanks.

| He binskiboi and welcome to fishlore!
First, i wouldnt reccomend a bala for a tank that size. Bala's need at least 90 gallons, as they do get really big, and they also like to be in schools...
here is our bala shark page: http://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-BalaShark.htm (it says 55g but they really do need more)
2nd, i think the small fish could be neon tetras or glolights or maybe even cardinals. (they're all tetras )
Are you going to transfer the fish from your 20g to it? |

| RTS and Rainbow? That's great they're still alive...try rehoming one of those guys before things get worse. Any tetras would be a great addition to your 35g I agree w/ Tony, Balas need bigger tanks and since they're schoolers they need even bigger tanks than the recommended size for 1 bala. |

| Do you're rts and rainbow fight alot?
They're both very aggressive and territorial fish and one might end up killing the other when kept together (unless you have a huge tank)
I would suggest maybe getting rid of the rainbow being how it needs more room and then getting a school of smaller fish such as neons.

| That would be great if you could seperate the sharks.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the rainbow shark needs 55 gallons? So I think it would probably be better if you could just return the rainbow to a LFS and maybe get some store credit to buy a new school of fish. |

| Yes, rts are bottom dwellers and dwarf or mid-top dwellers. Do you have a spare one ? I agree with abc rainbows need a bigger tank. Wait a second, do you have a dwarf blue gourami or a blue gourami? Last edited by eiginh; October 28th, 2009 at 06:03 PM.

| 3 spotted blue gouramis need a minimum of 20 gallons, can you get your hands on a 20 instead of a 10? Before getting new fish, try adjusting your stock with the size requirements. This way, you can prevent any problems that may happen. |

| acclimate the rts and the gold dwarf gourami in the 10g and oh that might be a sunset gourami! I need to do some research but you may get away with the dwarfs in the 10g along with the rts.
Does the gourami look like this? http://www.aquariumfish.net/images_0...sunset_200.jpg
I just did a research and the dwarfs shouldn't be together...unless they pair m/f. Last edited by eiginh; October 28th, 2009 at 06:24 PM.

| I agree LOL you should return one of the sharks, one alone would be alright in the 35, but 2 would be pushing it, so if you could take it back. It says on our caresheet that they are "ok" in a 10g, personally i dont think so, i wouldnt dare put a 6 inch fish in a 10g... i get the eebie jeebies just thinking about it.
Hmm... as far as i know most gouramis dont get allong with eachother, other than sparkling gouramis... |

| IMO your best choice would still be to return the rainbow and get a new school of smaller sized fish (just about any kind of tetra would be okay). Of course what you decide to do is all up to you. We just want the best for you and your fishies!
Also, people on this site LOVE pictures!
We would love to see some photos of your tanks! |
