Can you mix cichlids with a featherfin synodontis?

Hi.

I have a seriously bad tempered 5 inch Featherfin synodontis, currently on his own in my 60L QT tank. Had to remove him as he was doing serious damage to the Kribs and esp the clown loaches he was sharing with, despite them being bigger... I dont want to euthanise him, he is a beautiful sooty black and very pretty; LFS wont have him.

Could I put him in with malawi cichlids? I have found an unwanted 200L (e-cycle is a wonderful thing on our little island - all free ! ) and am considering trying to keep cichlids.

If I can, which cichlids would anyone recommend?? Am finding the initial reading a bit confusing and nowhere does it say if there are any non-cichlid fish that can share with cichlids.

Thank you nice people.

We keep featherfin's with african cichlids and oscar/jaguar cichlids (2 different tanks)

I have never heard of featherfins being aggressive. They like being in groups.

Featherfins as they grow cant stand others of their own species and will often kill or fight until 1 dies.

featherfins can keep up with the africans temperwise, but most africans are herbivores and the feathers are omni's ...but I hear they can do ok on just veggies so try researching their different diets and see what you come up with ...

I've got a featherfin in my african display & it does fine. They grow very fast when they get into the cichlid sinking pellets.

Thank you all

I think thats made my mind up so will try him in the new tank when its up and running.

He has been eating normal flake food and cichlid food and catfish pellets already and has grown quickly so I assume he will be fine.

LFS said he would grow 2 inches and was very friendly LOL. Guess why I dont use them any more... they also sell tortoises and havent a clue. The good news is the other fish shop is part of the local aquarium - and they DO know what they are talking about. Bit like finding a good doctor really, hard to find but well worth it !

Are there any other non cichlids that can go in with african cichlids?

Thanks as always nice people
