| Possible Oscar? I have a 75g that's supposed to be on its way to be delivered. I'm going to upgrade George my JD, the jewels, Cena my RTS and my pair of convicts to the 75g. I also have several extra tanks that I can re-house fish in.
Are all the fish listed above compatible with oscars? I was only going to get one and I'm hoping it'll be a rescue from Craigslist because I keep seeing these guys and it's driving me nuts. However, most I've seen have been pairs and I don't even want to think about how many filters that would take to handle that bio-load. Nor do I want to get an oscar that is so big, George the JD will fit in his mouth because then I'd be heartbroken.
I was thinking about giving the jewels their own tank anyways, and I can easily house the convict pair in another empty tank. I can also move my RTS to my daughter's 55. Those are the three species I'm concerned about.
Let me know what you all think.
Thanks everyone |

| haha i just answered your pm weŽll let the pros answer this one. I know Amanda keeps her oscars with some cons... not sure though, most cons can hold their ground, not sure about the red tail
yeah for oscars! |

I wouldn't try to house an Oscar with the RTS, unless it was a juvie Oscar. My cons beat up my Oscars...so no worries there. The Jewels will also hold their own. In reality, it's the JD you should worry about, as they are more aggressive than Oscars in general. |

| Woah, I thought the JD was the only one I didn't have to worry about according to my research.
Hmmm, well I'm not putting George in a different tank, he's a big part of this upgrade. So maybe an oscar isn't the best idea, then.
If I don't do an oscar, what about severums? Do you have any suggestions? 75g opens me up to possibilities I didn't have before, but I'm not quite sure where to go with this now. |

| in my experience, my oscars were tank bosses...with everything...although the cons would stand up to them at breeding time....even now, my jd's are very laid back unless spawning...but i raised my oscars from 2 inches to 12inches...and added my 2 inch jd's when my oscars were about 6-7 inches....as you know, all cichlids are different and you never know what you are getting until its done (as adults i mean)
but in your 75 g, I think you could have your oscar , your georgie porgie, and a pair of cons...that would be a great tank with some beauties... |

| Woohoo! That'll work. I can put the RTS with Shelby's JD she's getting on Sunday and give the jewels their own tank (which they need anyways-they just get cranky in there sometimes).
Now all I have to do is find an oscar who needs a home. I should be able to do that |

I should be able to do that | again, every oscar is different and I can only speak from my experience....but a jd will not take out an oscar unless he was so badly treated in his life, that he doesnt know how to fend for himself...but he can learn with proper care....which I know you will give him/her....and I know the jewels can hold their own(or at least mine could that I got from cesch) but space wise, id not go with them as well as the others...so either the jewels or cons, oscar and george...
have george and whatever pair you are going with (jewels or cons) in there for a bit(2 weeks or so) before you go looking for a rescue |

| Idk...I've seen Oscars & JD's together & it's always the JD that is more aggressive. Oscars are not really considered that aggressive of a cichlid for their size. But, it's your tank & I'm sure you'll handle whatever comes your way! Good luck! |

I will wait a couple weeks. It'll give me a chance for more research. Quote:

Good luck! | Thanks, Amanda I've always really liked oscars, but still have some research to do on them as well, so if I freak out over the whole "moving things around in the tank" thing, I may back off of this completely.
You're partly to blame for this, you rescuing those two oscars put them back in my mind again |

| UPDATE: The tank that was on it's way was a 55g, not a 75g. Guess my oscar will have to wait. I'm contacting two other people, so maybe one of them will pan out. If not, maybe it's just wasn't meant to be.
I really should've asked for a picture AND the dimensions. Not too proud of myself for that.
I feel horrible. I put my fish under stress for no reason . Once those people were gone, I busted my tail to get the fish's old tank up and running. I think I got it up in record time. They're back in it and happy as can be (thank goodness). |

| My Oscar lives with a JD, Jewels, a Severum and a Con and is the Boss of the tank, but he was already about 5 inchs when I got the others, so he's a lot bigger than them. My JD or Con would boss the tank if all the fish were the same size, as they're by far the most aggressive. My Oscar was a bit of a wimp until he hit 8 inchs. Now he's a nasty, nasty fish. |

On the brighter side of things, I made a discovery in the takedown of their 55g. I found a striped con who had somehow escaped them for at least a week. I put him back in the 10g with the others who are being raised instead of fed. I figured he'd earned the right to live |
