29g Stocking tips/ideas

My 29g currently has 5 cardinal tetra, 1 female betta, 1 female guppy, and 3 otos and I was hoping to get 2-4 fish that get up to around 3-4" Any ideas? Thanks

PS the tank is pretty heavily planted

I would say that tiger barbs would be a nice addition! I'm pretty sure they get up to about 3"...

Hi Adam Welcome to FishLore
I have to respectfully disagree with adding Tiger Barbs to your set up.
They can be pretty aggressive and with a Betta in with the community, imo, it would be asking for someone to get killed or seriously hurt.

If it were my tank, I'd get the betta a 5g tank of it's own, maybe a 10g and then you could move the otos in with the betta.
Here's our Betta Care Guide

That would give you several options for your 29g. Guppies like company, so you could add a few more. Stick with females unless you want fry. If you want to breed them, be sure to have a few females to one male.
Glow Lights will hang with Cardinals, the contrast in color is pretty cool.

Good luck and post some pics soon.

I agree Tiger Barbs can start nipping at your Betta's fins.

Planted as in plastic or real plants?

With a 29g you can take the tetra's up to 8 or 10 if you prefered, you can also add some Cherry barbs in groups of 6, there peaceful and fun to watch , they get to around 2" then stop growing.

You could also get some sailfin mollys and some sword tails (which grow to around 4-5" ea) of different colors, If you mix different colored fish it makes the tank pop imo

Oh and I almost forgot. If you can it would be awesome to get corys
Why only 2-4 Go all the way up to 20
I know someones going to correct me.

You can add rummy nose tetra they look cool having red heads. it's also funny b/c it seems like they ate a bag of hot cheetos. You can also put a sparkling gourami in there, but it may have conflict with the female betta though your tank is pretty big and has plant decor.

The plants are plastic.

Thanks for the help everyone! I like the idea of getting different colored swordtail mollies as they seem like pretty cool fish and I'll probably add some more female guppies to give the other one some playmates

Guppies get very timid when you have a few guppies.

Some sword tails with awesome colors is the Red Tux and the Gold Tuxedo

Sailfin mollies are awesome too

A Gourami and a Betta are a bad mix, as far as I know they're not compatible.

If you have heavy aquascaping you could go with Pearl Gouramis but im not confident it would work out as the pearls get bigger.

So does that mean I should just stick with the one or that I should get her some friends? And thanks again to everyone for the help, it's very much appreciated!

Your tank sounds VERY similar to mine, only mine has a few more fish!

Just to give you some ideas, my 29 gallon tank inhabitants are:

1 female betta
1 female guppy
4 black kuhli loaches
4 otocinclus
12 neon tetras
6 zebra danios

Yes, I know I'm "technically" overstocked, but I have an oversized filter, my fish are all happy, and I haven't even lost one neon since I brought them home! I asked for 8 of the neons, but the guy gave me 12... oh well! Free fish are great!

Also, at one point I did have a male dwarf gourami and a female betta together. The DG died after he was majorly stressed when the tank sprang a leak and everything was crazy for a couple of days, but I never had a problem with him and a female betta. I know it usually won't work, but there's an exception to every rule!
