Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Angels and Gourami?

Right,

for my 120g I have decided to move my barbs up to my 20g and partition it to allow about 5g space for the betta and 10g for 3 black ruby barbs.

My 120g currently has 3 clown loaches, 3 kuhli loaches, 1 blue gourami, 3 bn plecs (and fry not sure how many), 3 peckoltia plecs 1 featherfin syno, and 8 cherry barbs. They all get along fine atm, infact my gourami des some fishkeeping for me and is the plecs are too still he nudges them until they move lol. He has fast become my fave fish!

Is it possible to have angels in that set up? I was also thinking of getting 1 female gourami. I am 100% sure the gourami I have in there at the moment is a male as his fin is pointed and not rounded and his body doesnt seem that rounded - maybe I should add a picture (any excuse to show him off!!)

The tank has plants around the edge and a large space in the middle for swimming around.

I look forward to your advice .

sounds like you have something really nice. Hard to predict chemistry between fish once there's multiple species. But just go slow, sounds to me like they're your pride and joy so pay good attention, and move ahead! good luck.

Gourami temperaments vary. My late Livius, a gourami, ignored everyone else in the tank, while his mate decided one day to kill him. But afterwards was fine with the other gouramis in there.

Some people suggest against gouramis + angels, but if you take it slow and if the gourami is large/old enough to stick up for itself it could work out.

Good luck!

I might be worried about the gourami and angel. My gourami was a bit temperatemental with some of my larger fish

I bought a 2cm juvi Angelfish and a 2cm juvi Gourami at the same time, by the next day the angel had "stalked" the gourami to death - I didnt even see him touch him once but he used to slowly stalk him into the corners and up to the surface of the water. Now that I have 2 angels they beat up on each other constantly, in my eyes there's no such thing as a peacefull angelfish. Then again might just be my bad luck. I guess it depends on the individual.

Yes my fish are my pride and joy .

It sounds like angels and gouramis are a bad idea then and I would hate to risk putting in angels and losing the angels or the gourami.

What fish would you recommend??

No idea how barbs and tetras get along. But I have a clown loach tank with 12 tetras in it and they love each other. The tetras "flank" the larger clown when he does his slow laps of the tank of a morning. The tetras even join in when the clowns play in the outlet waterflow :P

I have cherry barbs which are similar sized to tetra and they get lost in the tank so I was hoping for something bigger.

and OMG I forgot to mention my corys they are so awesome too lol I have 2 which love my clown loaches and I am upping my school of clowns from 3 to 4 this weekend and my corys from 2 to 4. I guess I will just see what the LFS recommend and have in stock, I trust my lfs as they have given good advice so far and my bf knows the guy and he has kept fish for like 20 years lol.
