Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

dwarf cichlids

would a pair of blue rams be ok with a trio of cockatoo cichlids in a 36gal tank?

In my opinion, that would not be enough footprint for five dwarf cichlids. The trio of apistos or the pair of rams would be fine, but probably not all of the above.

trust me....if you get a trio of cockatoos....the Females will each claim 1/2 of the tank. If you are going to mix dwarfs in one tank only do pairs....lots of plants and caves.

When they spawn the cacs and your rams will not do well together. It's the moms that are soooo protective. May a pair of each at most...and watch them close if you detect spawning.....the females will claim there territories as soon as they can.

Those are my experiences with a 55 gallon.

Mathas is correct on the footprint....but not if they spawn. The males were never a problem. My Borelli male and cockatoo male has no issues.
