Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Tankmates for cory cats?

I have a twenty gallon tank containing two cory catfish. I originally had a male betta in the tank too but decided he would be happier in his own tank.

The tank seems pretty empty now and I would like to add some fish that are pretty to look at. What do you suggest?

Hi Welcome to FishLore
I have a 20g with 2 cories also!
I plan to add a Dwarf Gourami and a few more cories.
Then maybe some sort of small tetra or guppies.

Cories like to be in groups, so you might want to add a couple more.
What kind of fish do you like?

Good luck and have fun stocking your tank

welcome to the forum.. I would add more corys They really do like more company, they are a playful bunch with each other, more the merrier. And they are great community fish. i would think any fish that you like would do. Platys are very colorful and active in the tank.

WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

If you can give us a list of your favorite fish, we can help you out arrange a stocking list If I had to choose, some members here would already know my favorite kind of fishies. TETRAS!! You can go with a school of tetras and another school of corydoras. A small school of 6 each would go nice Keep us updated!

I have 4 corys......1 albino, 1 julii and 2 green. They all play together but i noticed if you get 2 of the same (like my 2 green) they will be practically glued together. My 2 that are the same stay together alllll day, when i had 2 peppered they did the same.

I would suggest more cories, they are very playful and fun to watch.

Other fish that I have with my cories are mollies, platys, cardinal tetras, silver tip tetras and plecos

Welcome to Fishlore! I agree that corys like to be in schools. I also agree that if you provide us with a list of your favorite fish, we could help you arrange the stocking for your 20 gallon tank.

Enjoy the site! We love pictures around here.

I've been thinking of getting platys, would those go well in my tank with the corys? If so, how many should I get, and how many corys? Thanks!

Oh yes, platys and corys go great together. And there are so many different colored platys to choose from, too. But unless you want babies, you may want to get all males.

We love our platys. We have several mickey mouse in two different tanks.
