I was wondering is this gona be suitable combination of fishes? : Guppies + pair of Convict Cichlid + pair of Labidochromis caeruleus 'yellow labs'+pair of Brown Hoplo Catfish (Hoplosternum thoracatum)
I have 7 gallons tank, with sand and plants, water is kept at room tempereture.

| Hello VLaD and Welcome to Fish Lore. I'm afraid your Guppies would end up being a snack for your Cichlids. I wouldn't recommend them being tank mates at all. Too, for Cichlids you would need a much bigger tank. I wish I had better news for you!
Hope you enjoy the site. Lots of good information here and friendly people. http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm
The above link is crucial to fish keeping. According to your profile information you are unaware of the nitrogen cycle.
Best wishes!

If the 7 gallons isn't a typo, theres not a lot you can do with size tank, and really nothing with cichlids.
A pair of convicts I would suggest a 30 gallon tank for someone new in the hobby. Probably the same for the yellows. Hoplo's are a very cool fish, but the same goes for them they need a larger tank. Just a note 99% of the time it is not a good idea to mix American cichlids with Africans, they have different needs.
Also for any of these fish they need a heater in the tank, a room temp tank won't do it for them.
A 7 gallon tank would be perfect for a shrimp tank.

There are lots of cool shrimp you could keep, find one you like and get a small colony, they are very interesting to watch.

| Vla if you are bored with your guppies how about giving them a tank makeover? New ornaments, plants, do something special for them Move the tank to another location. Just thought I'd toss out some ideas. Do you have any photos or videos of your tank that you can share?

| Hi and WELCOME TO FISHLORE!
Omg! Your tank looks overcrowded with a tank filled with Guppies. Have you read the nitrogen cycle yet? Do you know about the rule of thumb about one or two inch of fish per gallon? If not, better to follow Ken's advice by reading up on the nitrogen cycle article given in the link above on Ken's post.
Guppies multiply fast especially when you have a lot of female in the tank. So I'd suggest you remove or return the female quickly because they seem to be pregnant and may give you fry in a few days! Then your tank will start to be more crowded and you'll find fish dropping dead each day. Good luck and keep updated please! |

| Thanks for sharing VLad. Looks like you have some beautiful guppies there Be sure to keep up with your water changes so they don't suffer from ammonia poisoning. Have you thought about a 2nd tank and maybe dividing them up?

| Glad to hear that you're going to move some guppies, they really do need more room. They're crazy little fish. lol
Personally, I wouldn't keep guppies in a 7g. If you have no other choices, I'd suggest a max of 2 or 3.
I like Ken's idea, if you're bored with your tank, you can re-decorate and maybe add a background. Sometimes they do wonders for a tank.
I use store bought ones and on a couple of tanks I use colored poster board. |
