Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

55 Gallon stocking ideas.

Hey all. Gonna be restocking my 55 gallon and looking for some compatible fish to go in the tank once its cycled again. Had to tear down the tank and sterizile it do to callamanus worms. So far ive only come up with a few fish that I want. Any ideas what I could put with them that would be compatible? Planted tank with a few pieces of driftwood and silica sand as substrate.

List so far:
1 Redtailed shark
1 Pearl Gourami (may put 3 or 4 in)
2 kribensis
Possibly 1 or 2 angelfish (Not sure yet as they might really hinder other stocking options.)

How about a nice school of rasboras or x-ray tetras? They're compatible with everything on your list.

Thanks. I have been looking at the rasboras after deciding against tiger barbs as they can be nippy. Rasboras do seem like a good option and will probably end up on the list. The x-ray tetras I dont think are sold locally. I know I would like a decent size tight schooling tetra. Just not sure which one.

Congo tetras are good-sized. They'd do great in a 55 gallon.

Hi Doug. I wouldn't get Angels with your Gouramies or if your getting tetras because Angels can be really territorial and might eat up your tetras when they get the chance. I'd suggest some Gouramies and some a school of tetras. You can check out this website for fish compability, hope it helps a bit. http://www.tropicalfishandaquariums....tchResults.php

Keep us posted!

I have heard that about angels and I am very hesitant. I was thinking I might try my luck but maybe I am better off just not getting them. Im trying to go for a tank that has a touch of aggresion in it without any fish getting beat up on or eaten.

What about Cichlids? I'm not too sure which ones but research into cichlids. I know there are some semi-aggressive cichlids that "maybe" could mix with some community fish. I'm sure the more experienced members who know more about cichlids can help you

The only cichlid I think that work would be the kribs. Would love to have bolivian rams again but not sure how they'd fair with the red tail shark.

Colombian tetras might be a good choice. Silvertip tetras are semiaggressive, though smaller. They would add a nice splash of yellow color and some lively action, and they school pretty tightly.
