Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

which fish?

Now that the tank is nearly cycled i am compiling a list of fish i wish to add.

i have a 120 litre tank (not what is listed in my profile but that needs to be edited)

currently have 2 platys
1 plec ( species only grows to 4 inches max, clown plec?)
3 sucking loaches (identified on a loaches site but cannot remember the name of them. grow no more than 2 inches)

i want to add more platys and a school of guppys and some neon tetras. i am thinking having a final list of

4 platys
1 plec
3 loaches
4 guppys
6 neon tetras

i am aware that i can not add the neon tetras for some time but as i am only going to add a few fish gradually over time i will leave them for a month or so.

Will this amount be ok for the fish?

if there is any room i would like a congo frog but i'll have to wait.
i will be doing 25% water changes weekly, whilst siphoning half the gravel each week. i am prepared to do m ore if neccessary.

Should this be in a different section?

Is the "sucking loach" an otto?
http://www.fishlore.com/profiles_otocinclus.htm

To put it in perspective for those of us non metric,
I figure your tank is a little over 30 gallon. That's a nice size.

If you completely complete your nitrogen cycle before adding any more fish,
keep up your weekly water changes when you do,
allow a couple of weeks between fish additions,
test the nitrAtes to be sure they stay under 20,
give your tank a while to settle and season a couple of months before adding the neons,
you probably will be ok.

It's not that those are alot of fish, it's just so tempting to add too many fish too soon.
Then you wind up with ammonia problems, fish death, sadness and frustration.
Take it slow,

I think a sucking loach is also known as the Chinese algea eater.

Those look like CAE's. The pleco kind of looks like a clown, but I'm not 100% sure.

Good morning. I moved your thread to Aquarium Stocking Suggestions.
I think it may help you to get more responses and to help others with the same issues.
Thanks!

SAE,s And by looking at it i think the plec is a butterfly plec. Hope this helps. Also rule of thumb is if you were to line your fish up length ways head to tail, end to end, thats how many fish you can have in the tank.

If we follow the above rule and your tank is 36" wide, then it's maxed out, so don't add the frog.
I assume a frog would probably have as much bioload as the pleco.
