| Could Karma Be Lonely? Karma (my con hybrid) has been very closely watching the new 55 gallon tank with the two jellybeans (Hekyll & Jekyll) and the female con (Cleopatra).
I don't want another con in there with her since we think she's a hybrid. However, do you guys think she'd be happy if there was another single fish in the tank with her?
If so, what do you suggest? Her happiness is very important to me and I don't want her to be lonely.
Any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

| What about a peaceful species? Would she be compatible since she's not spawning? |

| It just depends BB.. Anything you add is a toss up. She may or may not allow it.
Sounds mean but there is only one way to find out, add something new and see how it goes.
I would make sure it is a fish you wouldn't mind keeping in a different tank just in case it does not work out.

| Hmm, maybe I'll just leave her by herself and try to give her a little more TLC. She plays peek-a-boo with me (no, I'm not kidding). She's not a fan of the ping pong ball I put in there.
Maybe I can change her aquascaping a little bit. Any ideas on some new "toys" for her? Do you think she might enjoy some of those "hamster tubes"? |

| You could try some fake plants. Don't bury them, just set them on the bottom, she will move them around to how she wants them.

| That's a good idea! And I already have those at the house.
I can visualize her happily re-arranging the plants, too. Who knows, maybe it'll turn into a new game for her and I to play. I've already seen her picking up different pieces of substrate. |

| Hey! hmm you could add PVC pipes or get lots of rocks for her to play and hide and stuff
maybe get her a clown pleco or something like that |

Other cons or something else? Are we pretty sure she's a female? If so, maybe another female?
I guess what it comes down to is this: I want her happy first and foremost. But if there's a chance of spawning, I also need to make sure that I am able to take responsibility for and find homes for any babies that occur. I guess I'm concerned that may be more difficult because of her hybrid status if the babies don't show her color.
Am I being wwaaayyy too paranoid here? |

| I was going to say the same thing as Shawnie. No reason she can't be with the other Cons. My Jellybean breeds with a black Con, and my LFS is excited to see what exactly they produce. |

| I would get 2 girlie cons to go with her...but remember, shes been alone for so long, you might have to remove her, redo the deco and switch stuff around, then put the newbies in and her after....you will have room in the 55 if the girls dont get along |

| Okay, I'll try that then. I'm going to re- aquascape her tank anyways to give her something new to look at, so I'll do it then.
Thank you |

| 3 female cons in a 20? I couldn't even keep 2 females together in a 75 with other cichlids. JMO, but I think you'd have some real issues there with aggression. For what it's worth, she appears to be a normal female con to me... maybe try a male? I still think that's pushing it in a 20, but others have done it so it might work. |

| I have 5 fems in a 75 gal sa tank..and 4 in a 75 african tank..all do fine...they actually spawn together, but of course wihout the man to do his work, nothing comes of it...although I did have one spawn in the african tank..the other ladies noses are highly out of joint they werent picked LOL ...I also have 3 fems in a 20 gal and they do fine ...they were raised together tho...female cons are much more easy to get along with others IME but again, each fish is different...karma has been spoiled and loved alone for so long, she may not tolerate anyone |

To be honest, there's more than one backup plan. There's the 55, the empty 29, and another empty 20. I really don't want Karma to breed. At least with the jellybeans, we know what's in them. Parrot + convict=jellybean convict. With Karma, it's ? + convict + convict= . That scares me a little . I really want to be a responsible fishkeeper
Female cons with her will definitely prevent any breeding from taking place |
