| stocking. along with bala sharks ok so i have a 150 gal tank that i set up roughly 5 months ago. it has 8 bala sharks currently in it, that are currently around 3 in so far. anyways, i was wondering what other fish you guys think are compatible with the bala sharks. |

| I think that 8 bala sharks as adults will be way to big for a 150gal. If you take maybe 4-5 back then you could add a common pleco for cleaning or some syndontis are cool. I kept 2 bala sharks in a 75 with blue gouramis and a kissing gourami. Hope that helps> |

| i thought i read that they grow to about a foot which is 12 inches. so multiply that by 8 and get 96. which leaves 54 inches left of fish. correct? or do you not go by the one inch of fish per gallon for bigger fish??
anyways, im kinda looking to get a good list of different fish that i could put with balas, me and my dad are even thinking of building a GIANT tank together, so the sky is the limit with these fish as of now, im just looking for possible ideas |

| I see, Im from South Africa so am not so familiar with the 1 inch per gallon rule.I just remember that my 2 adults in a 75 with some other fish looked stocked. How long and deep is your tank? Also if you are planning on building a bigger tank in the future I think it would be fine to keep them for a while in the 100gal. |

| With a fish so large, the inch per gallon rule is obsolete.
You are fully, fully, super stocked, IMO you can only keep 4 Balas in a tank that large to allow for correct schooling behaviour, turning capability and imitation of habitat. They grow to about 14 inches and really need a big tank, you'd need about a 300 + gallon for eight. |

| umm i think the tank is aroud 6ish feet long and 1.5 ft deep. and its a 150gal not 100gal
also what kind of fish would be ok to be kept with the balas? i was thinking maybe some clown loaches or some silver dollars. ive also loved reedfish. anyways, what fish you say are ok to keep in the tank with the balas? and what is a safe size for fish that wont be eaten by the balas when they are full grown? |

| alright well we are thinking of possibly a 800 to 1000 gal tank in the future, possibly next half year. so stocking ideas for that i guess. im really just looking for compatible fish at this point |

| Spelling error on the tank size, sorry. For a 800-1000gal tank stocking: Almost anything!! lol.
I hear that silver dollars are compatible and get big too so wont get eaten by balas. Perhaps for the 800gal: 8X balas, 5-6 silver dollars, 6-8 clown loaches( I have 3 together but that is the minimum as they are a schooling fish IMO), several gouramis(1 kissing gourami, 2 blue gouramis. 2 pearl gouramis.etc) and a common pleco. Thats just some ideas. Not sure about the reed fish, never owned one.
But I think you should only get the majority of the fish when you have your monster tank cycled and ready. |

| Silver Dollars are super skittish, although compatable, will quite probably get freaked by the fast moving balas. |

| But if you have lots of hidding places and plants its doable. |

| so last question. so a good size for fish that the balas wont eat would be maybe 6 inches? or could i possibly go any smaller? |
