| 209 gallons... what would you stock? im about to begin building a plywood tank that will measure 7'x2'x2'. im looking for ideas on what to stock. i know that i want to keep some very large fish as well as some schools or fish.
it will be a few months before im ready to start stocking the imaginary tank, so im trying to give myself ample time to get all my fish researched before i start caring for them.
right now im thinking along the lines of 2-3 oscars, a school of 15-20 tiger barbs, a school of 30-40 harliquen rasboras, and my common pleco. im not very knowledgeable on different fish, thats why im asking your opinions, hopefully you all will enlighten me a little |

| Oscars may get hungry and begin to nibble on your stock.
Personally, I'd got for about 50 Cardinal tetras, and maybe some Discus if you feel up to it.
Or, maybe an Angel fish tank, with three pairs (three different varities would look AWSOME!)
Three pairs is roughly 48", so I'd fill the rest up with some nice tetras, maybe some White Skirts, or maybe two [airs of Bolivian Rams, and then frinally a Pleco (Try going for a clown, beautiful and don't get huge!)
Good luck with whatever you decide! |

| How fun for you!!. I want to try my hand at discuss but I'm not ready to do RO water but if you are that is a great idea. You could have a HUGE Malawi tank. That would look amazing with all the rock work. |

| I think I'd go with a school of 7 Silver Dollars, 5 Pictus Catfish, 15 Gold Barbs, 15 Tiger Barbs, 5 Giant Danios and a Red Tail or Rainbow Shark. But I could totally change my mind, too many great fish to choose for that big of a tank!
Whatever you choose will be great! |

| I'd definitely go with a Lake Tanganyika tank! Cyprichromis, l. ocellatus, and I'd research fish that are compatible with those. But that's JMO. |

I always wanted to set up a Lake Tang tank but wasn't able to do it... money, space, etc. I kept l. ocellatus "gold" for some time, but had to give them up to move here. Now that I'm married and in GA, we've sort of shifted focus to marine reef keeping and we'll be out of space after the 100 gal frag tank and 125 gal reef are set up. The only other FW tank we'll be setting up is a 55 for discus... once again I tossed around the idea of a Tang tank but it isn't nearly large enough for what I would want to do. |

I find Lake Tang species very interesting in their habitat, habits, difficulties and challenges in keeping and spwaning. I am not talking about the common daffodil, brichardi but more difficult fish such as furcifer, T. moorii Ikola Kaiser, Moliro Red Murago , etc (not that difficult to breed) but difficult to properly feed in the beginning. Not too mention the Lamp tang, a cyprinids, a gorgeous fish. Looks like a shiner but with stunning colors.
Any way good luck with future s/w set ups. |

| I would do a central American cichlid tank, with some oscars, jack dempseys, firemouths, and whatever else would fit into that category.
Or an amazon biotope would be pretty cool too with some angelfish, discus, and some larger tetras and catfish. |

| i would do a huge betta sorority or a super big breeding colony of rosy minnows jk i would have to go with a bunch of angels, gold and silver lyrcertail mollies,a couple trios of dwarf sunset platys, 2 firemouth chiclids, 13 false jujicorys, and 30 kulihini loaches. |

I forgot to mention how much I love tropheus... I almost brought some home so many times when I worked at the LFS (Kaisers even, I believe), but didn't have enough room to set up the extra 55 gal at the old house, plus I'd much rather do tropheus in 75 gal minimum but it just wasn't in the budget. |

| If i were going to do Tangs i'd do Featherfins or Enantiopus melanogenys. Tropheus too.
Otherwise i'd get some Paretroplus from madagascar. |
