Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Would this overkill my tank?

Hmm... I have a 70 gallon discus tank, it has 7, 2.5" discus and 2, 5" discus, alson 7 cory, ~25 neons and a pleco. Now I want to add the final batch of fish, 20 rummynose tetras. Would this be overloaded? Because of the discus, I do water changes in a schedule, 1 day 30%, second day 15% and goes on.So quite often

I think that would be to much with the rummynose tetras. How are discus your doing?

They're all good . Healthy and active, accept one, he's still kinda shy, but come out to eat when food comes though, so nothing to be worried about. How is yours?

It does exceed the "inch per gallon" rule, but I've always had luck with slight overcrowding as long as the tank was well planted and had small, frequent water changes. I've never had discus, though, so I don't know their temperment beyond what I've read, so I'll let others comment on behavior. (Obviously, even perfect water quality, should you maintain it, will mean nothing in the long run if the space issue leads to stressed fish; maybe add the new fish slowly, over a series of weeks, and observe everyone's behavior to watch for stress/anxiety before getting all 20? Would you consider a smaller school, to play it safe? Maybe 7-10? Or you could start w/ 6, and if/when you need to replace fish over time, replace each deceased tetra or cory w/ a runny nose, until you even out the size of the schools, which I assume was your initial goal?)

I agree with Atkinson... It is too much with the tetras and the pleco. The pleco can grow really big you know? And maybe lessen a bit on the neons. To around 15-20?

I never use the inch per gallon rule, i personally find it useless. Especially for any kind of cichlid.

I wouldn't add anything else though personally, seems like you have enough in there at the moment.
