Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

are you looking at a cichlid-only tank? or is this going to be a community while including cichlids?

suggestions on what fish to get? Well Im partial to puffers.
you could turn it brackish and get 2 f8s.
or maybe 2-3 freshwater dwarf puffers.

if not puffers, then gourami's are another fish you could consider.
are there any other fish your fond of?

um, ok!
Lets think...if you wanna go with a community tank, some angels would be nice, with some corys at the bottom.
theres also barbs, which can be slightly aggressive depending on the fish.
Oh the choices!

How's this?...

3 Angelfish
8 Neon or Cardinal Tetras (Add first and give them time to grow)
2 Bolivian or German Blue Rams, whichever you prefer [male/female]

Maybe a few kuhli loaches? they don't add much to the bioload and provide ground activity

That'd be a nice set up, I esp. like the GBRs!

If you want a total south american biotype, which is what I was aiming for in this setup, consider changing kuhli loaches (S Asia) to a type of corydoras catfish (Peru, SA)

Tony,

We've all been there in "what to stock-so many choices".

The best advice I can offer is to think about what fish you want THE MOST that would be happy in your size tank and water conditions and plan your stocking around that.

Does that help

It's labeled leopard cories, but they look very similar to our false julii corys.

GREAT CHOICE! We LOVE ours! They're so fun. One came with one of my tanks from Craigslist. He's two years old and he's HUGE!

I've never found a cory that I didn't like.

There is a noticeable similarity between them and false juliis.

I must add that I *love* cory cats as well! They are just the funniest little buggers!

I have 2 pandas in one 30g, 2 spotted (one adult and one juvie) in my 55g and I got 3 baby green aneus last night for the new 30g! They are just adorable and fun!

psh ya right! dont do it... i dont reccomend it at ALL. I had a hard time moving here. In the US, a standard aquarium kit(10 gals) is around 44.90-50 dollars at walmartor petsmart. Here, liten to this, they are 1000-1200
so i dont reccomend it
its easier to buy everything separate here, and lets not say, our aquarium test kits suck! i had to buy 2 API test kits when iwent to canada cuz they dont have them here. The cheapest testkit ive seen is around 1500. hahaha wanna move still?

Holy cow! I guess the fish have to be cheap if the aquarium is so expensive!!!! Can you order them online at least? Wow!

I got the 3 cories all for $10 total last night, but they were selling other cories for $15-20 each!

it the same either way, the shipping is expensive too... The fish arent that cheap either... angels were i live range from 100-150 so i will buy them young(around 1 inch) for 15 each.. also their lives arent very good either.. the other day i saw 7 5" ID sharks in a 20 gal!! man i hate this kind of stuff too.
anyway back to the topic

i think im gonna go with angels, tetras and cories maybe some cardinals, or red eyed.. hmm who knows lol
