Stocking Query

Hi all. Recently purchased a 20 Gallon tank, no fish for a while yet as its still going through the nitrogen cycle, but I wanted to get some feedback on wether or not the amount of fish I want to get will overcrowd my size tank?

4-5 Glowlight Tetra's
4-5 neon tetra's
2-5 Bronze Cory's
*Possibly* 2 Scissortail rasbora's

The scissortails are in the list because all the fish I have my heart set on getting are mid-bottom dwelling and I wanted something that might hang around the top more.

does this setup look like ill be overstocking my tank?
and does anyone know of another top-dwelling fish that will complement my other choices that might not be as large?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Fish Lore

I think that its not overstocked yet but maybe go with 4 glowlights and 4 neons. For top dwelling fish I personally like scissortails( my first few fish) so I would stick with them. Keep up with water changes and your tank should do well. I see you are from SA: Where about? Hope that helps.

Here is my suggestion:
10 neons OR glowlights (The fish will be happier in a larger school and they will look better that way as well.)
5 Bronze corys
6 zebra danios

The scissor tail rasboras get fairly large if I'm not mistaken (around 4 inches) and they like to be in schools of 6 or more, so I wouldn't get any, zebra danios however stay under 2 inches, they like to school as well and they stay near the top.

Thanks both of you for your thoughts!

have gone with the Danio's. Due to the pet shops inability to count, I bought 8 and came home with 11! All are doing fine, they are highly energetic and happy, although they stick to the bottom half of the tank for the time being. Have just purchased 3 panda corys, so far so good in that they are eating and being very playful with the Danios (the smallest one keeps trying to join their schooling groups, but gets bored of trying to keep up) thinking of either 3 peppered corys or another 3 pandas to round it out to 6. If that goes well, will finish off the tank with either 9 glowlights or 9 penguin tetras (for some reason they appeal to me)

Thanks again though for your input!

They all sound really cute.
With 11 danios and 3 cories, your 20g is pretty well stocked. I don't think it would be wise to add another school of fish.

We'd love to see some pics.

Will Upload pics as soon as possible, currently busy soaking a little rock overhang to give the corys some more hiding places after that ill add em to the cory cat picture sticky.

After browsing these fantastic forums im inclined to agree with you Lucy, I will in all likelyhood get another 3 corys and call it settled. That has been an eye-opener, as my friend who got me into keeping fish has a 10 gallon with 11 Neon tetras, 10 male and female guppies, 1 leoapard pleco and a betta male. I have convinced him to get a bigger tank for the pleco if he wants to keep it, and the bug has bit hard as im now trying to decide between another 20Gallon or getting the biggest tank i could possibly ever keep in my room, a 70Gallon

EDIT: i have a converted 23 Gallon UK Tank, which is a 28 Gallon US Tank, so i have a bit more room than 20 Gallons, which was why i considered a second school of tetras
