Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

With your group of barbs lending action to the mid/upper water
how about adding interest to the bottom area.

Does the gravel have rounded edges like pebbles?
It should be non-sharp for most substrate swimmers' best health.

A shoal of corydora catfish or a group of botia striata loaches are some options if the substrate is ok.
I'm wondering if kibensis would work too...

Let's see if you get some more ideas from the others.

Im going to the LFS this wednesday ( i spend 5-10% of my pay check on fish )

http://www.aquariusweb.qc.ca/docs_en...?inventaire=on

Fish that are in inventory are listed in this website.
Anione can help me chose with fish to add? I thought about adding a pleco or a cory but which one would fit the best.

Thanks guys !!

Oh, Chopstic, what a fantastic selection!!
Since I don't know your timezone, I hope I'm not too late responding.

A group of 6 Sterbae corydoras would be nice. They are really pretty cories.
The Neritina snails are beautiful. Nerite snails don't reproduce in fresh water, won't bother live plants and eat algae very well.
I would be tempted to add some of those too.

Add fish a few at a time, like the 6 cories and a few snails, then wait a few weeks to let the tank settle down before adding more.
This will allow the good bacteria to catch up and everyone to get used to each other.

Then, in a few weeks, maybe see about adding some bolivian rams and apistogamma or kribensis if you like them.
Let us know what you get.

Dont worry im still awake

Tomorrow ill get those 6 sterbae orr a L136b

I'll compare the price and decide which is the best.
About the apistogamma and bolivian rams i think i will add them the last (in case they get aggressive)

thanks again!

Your pleco is beautiful. Here is what I've found out about him/her: (sorry if you already know this stuff )
It's scientific name is Hypancistrus inspector (L136b)
It is an omnivore (meaning it eats veggies and meats)
But it is mostly a carnivore, so be sure that veggies aren't it's main diet because it is not an algae eater.
Have plenty of caves and hiding places for it and your bulldog pleco so they don't fight for territories.

Arched corydoras (or skunk cory) scientific name is Corydoras arcuatus.
I imagine the common names are because of the black stripe that curves along it's back. Cute!
They will be happy to have more buddies when you can get them.

That's great! Live plants are really healthy for the aquarium.
Your fish will appreciate them and as a bonus, they make it look nice.
Congrats on the new additions,

There are a couple of things to consider...
*Will adding more fish so soon cause an ammonia spike?
Your tank info states that your tank in pretty new, (started late June) but you do have alot of nice plants to help obsorb small amounts of ammonia.
Even so, you might be better off waiting a couple of weeks, allowing for the good bacteria to grow.
Waiting might be what you had planned already, I just wanted to be sure you are thinking it through.

* Will the barbs or gourami eat them, since they are so tiny?
It's your call on that one.

I imagine they are doing the "vedge" thing because, like you said, they are getting used to their new home.
Cory are sensitive to ammonia, so keep an eye on your water and do water changes if you have problems.
This is another reason to wait a few weeks before adding the danios or any other fish.
hth,
