need advice about about my new open top tank

hi am well pleased with the fact that i have finally found the tank of my dreams!!
its the fluval osaka 320 and i could scream im so happy . its been delivered on monday and despite the fact that im over the moon i still have a few reservations that i wanted to run past you all.
i could never of afforded ths tank brand new and therefore have bought it 2nd hand however the man that im buying of has only had it 8 months and is having some problems...
the tank is an open to-p with the t5 lights held above by a brace.
now he kepy marine fish and he had some crabs and smails that consistently climbed up and out of the tank whic he states was the reason tht he was selling it.
im keeping tropical fish and i am planning on moving my pictus 4 cats, 3 clown loaches, 4 angels into this tank none of which tht i think will be ble to jump over the top and out.
i intend not to fil the water to the top hoping this might help too.
its a shame im gonna have to sell wally the t t eel but im sure it would take him no less than 10 sec to make his escape to see the world!
do you think this set up will be ok..plus will i ever be able to buy a plec
any fish that i should aviod?

I have known plecos to jump out of tanks. My school pleco jumped right oyut of the tank and died. Mine jumped into my filter, but he survived. I have a dwarf pleco. I'm uncertain about the plecos, because both of my school's tank and my tank have a tank cover.

Yeah all of the bottoms feeders are pretty stong swimmers, so they may be able to clear it depending on how full it is.

if jumping out is a problem you could try a transparent plastic mesh. i think the sell them at home depot, you just cut it so it fits and hold it down with pins or seomething. I´v never had an open top tank so i dont have any experience
hope it helped

Hi Queensbobby
Please do not spray any type of air freshener around your tank. ITs definitely not good for them. Is there any chance you can order a glass top for your tank size? I have them on my 125 and I just love it. A glass top will still work with the hanging lights you have.
btw... the tank is gorgeous! Congrats on your find!

Beautiful set up. The only jumpers I've had are Red Tail and Red Finned (or Rainbow) Sharks. These guys escaped through an opening on the hood that was meant for a heater. I have no escape routes now I like CapeKates idea and would go ahead and have a glass top made when possible. I have them also and they are wonderful. Best of luck and keep us posted!
