Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Which Cichlid?

Currently I have a 29 gallon with 2 platies, 2 corys, and 1 BN pleco and I'm planning to get maybe 2 more corys and a cichlid. So I was wondering what cichlid would be best in that kind of an aquarium besides maybe angelfish and rams

Most of your apistogramma species should be fine in there.

Hope this helps

a single krib might work out. If you get a pair though and they breed, say goodbye to your peaceful tank!

A pair would be perfectly fine. I think a trio (one male and two females) would be fine as well, but you need to double check on that. I'm not positive.

It depends. Some species of apistogramma are harem spawners, some just pair. When you find a species that you like, be sure to research and find out what it would prefer.

A pair of keyholes would also do fine in your tank. They are not brightly colored, but I absolutely love my pair and I have had them for almost two years. They get along with practically any fish and are truly one of my favorite cichlid species. I even had a pair of keyholes and a pair of cockatoo cichlids in a 29 gallon with tetras, cories, and a bn pleco and everyone was very peaceful. It was a very interesting tank.
