Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Evil Angelfish!!! Advice please

I currently have two tanks, One 20g and one 29g. Have had the 20g for a bit and just getting fish added to the 29g. The 29g was cycled before adding plants then a butterfly fish was added first. Followed a week later by 3 tiny (a tad over an inch) angelfish and then a few days later a rainbow shark.
They have all been doing great and I wasn't planning on adding anymore fish.
Well my boyfriend's mother showed up today with a gift... A 2in angelfish. I skipped the quarentine since I knew where the fish was purched and noone I know has ever had problems with sick fish from there. Well after I added it the 3 other angelfish started attacking it. I was scared for the poor thing and took it out and have added it to my 20g for now. I already have several fish in the 20g and I don't know if it would over crowed that tank to leave it there. Is there any chance my other angels could warm up to the new one?? Anything I can do to help them get along, or is it a lost cause? It is a beautiful little fish and I know if I take her gift back to the petstore she'll be upset with me..... But I need to figure out what would be best for the little guy. Any advice would be wonderful.

I think you'd be ok with the angel in the 20 gallon for now. It's along the thin lines of overstocked, but the 1" per gallon rule is just a suggestion. Stay on top of your water changes and you should be fine.

welcome to fishlore !! (If I didnt already!) the 29 gal cannot hold another angel...especially after its been shown to you that the 3 are not going to tolerate another one...I agree with bulldog that if you keep up with maintenance, your angel will be fine for now..but eventually he will need a taller tank, not so much bigger, as his fins will be stunted if not..goodluck!

Keeping up with water changes won't be a problem... I'm a stay at home mom and my son loves being my helper, especally when it comes to the fish.
Actally my 20g tank is a 20tall. You said it would need a taller, not larger tank... So would that be good enough?
My sister wants to get a tank setup for her little girl. So started thinking once I get it set up for her I could give her some of the fish from the 20g and keep the Angelfish there.
