Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

20 gallon tank - how many Danios???

Hello Everyone....

I will be setting up a 20 gallon tank in the next few months. Currently, I have 6 adult LF Danios. I also have a 2 gallon tank with around 42 Danio fry. I'd like to know how many Danio's would be acceptable in a 20 gallon tank.

Opinions and suggestions will be appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Robin

I believe the common rule is 1 gallon to each inch, isnt it?

danio being about an inch & a half, times by a 20 gallon tank makes about 13 danios

you could go as many as 20 but, it would be wise not to go over a dozen.

how did you manage to breed them?

Depending on your upkeep, you could overstock the tank with a school of danios. Just keep an eye on water params, etc. AS long as they have swimming space, objects to relieve stress, etc - I think you'd be fine bending the "1 inch rule" a bit.

Thanks for all your replies! I've been told as many as 20 Danios but as mentioned, I don't want to overstock the tank. The Danios will be the only fish in this 20 gal tank. I'm sure they will have babies again.... I'll keep it around 15 Danios - sound good?

Again, thank you!!!!

I'd love to take pics of the fry. Only they end up like little blurs..... I tried last night with no luck but I'm going to keep trying!!!! I have a pretty good camera (Kodak), however, the lens isn't spectacular for focusing.... If and when I get any photos I'll definitely post them!!!!!

Thanks for the interest
