Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

I have a Pearl Gourami, guppys, Bolivian rams, bristlenose plecos, dwarf rainbow fish and rainbow shark all with my angels.

try to avoid smaller tetras like neons, black neons and sometimes cardinals as the angelfish will eat them. also don't mix them with tiger barbs or any other fish that nips fins because they will go for the Angels.

Thank you for reminding me to check CL...

I was gonna say Cories and Danios.. however the Danios need to be in a small school of around 6 or they will go for the Angelfish fins. Cories like to be in schools as well.

What kind of light do you have on your tank ? Some lights bring out color more then others. A lot of lights are aimed at saltwater coral tanks as opposed to freshwater tanks.
Angles are a little nippy. I think Gold Danios would go well with them. Maybe some plain guppies and Ghost Shrimp as feeders. Consider the background decor and substrate. Maybe something with a red tint.

I think that would be a fun tank for a pair of angels, 1 gourami, and maybe some cories or a bristlenose plec? ? the black skirts and angels, at least in my tank, did not get along...im not sure if others have had goodluck with them...great find and make sure you get some pics!

hmm, my opinion would be to skip the gourami. you could have some aggression issues between the two of them.

you may want to look into praecox rainbows for that tank, they're deeper bodied and bigger than most tetras so your angels probably won't be able to eat them

larger tetras like lemons are generally not a problem, I think, like the black skirts are. I think something else should replace the gourami. Maybe a pair of blue rams? Swordtails would probably be good too, just make sure you get males (the ones with the swords) unless you want babies. I like the praecox rainbow idea too, and the cory and BN pleco... so many choices. Doesn't it feel a little overwhelming? I love stocking new tanks. (Angels don't need to be eating fish so I wouldn't bother with getting something as a feeder fish)

two angels can be housed together, however just putting two in the tank will not ensure a pair. in order to ensure that you have a pair that won't constantly harass each other, you either need to buy an established breeding pair (which can get expensive) or buy six juvenile angels of about the same size, wait for a pair to emerge, and then return/rehome/sell the rest

Welcome to Fish Lore. As far as the angels are concerned. I would wait until your tank is established a few months before adding them. They can be very sensitive to water conditions. Good luck and have fun! We love pics!

I have been keeping Angelfish with neon’s and cardinals with out any problems. Look at my signature so you can see what I keep my angels with. Also I recommend you get angels that are about the size of a quarter if you plan on having small fish this way they will grow up not seeing these little guys as food. And yes please wait till your tank is cycled before you add angels to your tank.
