Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Mbuna stock list idea

this will be my first cichlid tank and im just checking with the masters to see if this list would make an acceptable mbuna tank.

my intentions are to 'overstock' the tank to reduce aggressive tendencies. the tank is quite over filtered, so i think i should be alright with all these fish, for filtration im running a JBJ canister filter rated for up to 150g tanks. if that doesnt cut it im fully prepared to add on my emperor 280 which is rated for up to 60g (i believe).

i have about 6-8 caves built out of slate and the substrate is about 3" of generic 'natural' looking gravel (white, tan, brown). there are a few silk plants to add additional cover and hiding as well.

heres the list -

Yellow Tail Acei - 2m/4f
Rusty Cichlid - 2m/4f
Yellow Lab - 2m/4f
Pseudotropheus saulosi - 2m/4f

it would probably be better to have 1m/5f for all the species, but i thought i would see what the thoughts were.

No!! do knot mix Pseudotropheus species together this will cause fighting and a high chance of them hybridising

they are interesting, but they dont sound like anything i would want to mess with. ive read to many comments about them rearranging extensively, and i dont think i want anything more than an average rearranger lol

it will probably be a process of a few months adding all the stock, the hardest part is figuring out what to stock lol.

Red zebra would be fine, maybe instead of red zebra a group of cobalts?
All that yellow in the tank could be an issue with fighting.

ill definitely consider going with cobalts instead. right now i have a ton of yellow labs and a couple peacocks to deal with. im looking at trading some of the labs for some Acei, then probably selling the rest of the 'extra' labs to my LFS. its all going to be a very slow process so im not concreting any plans just yet lol.

oh ya, the peacocks will probably go to my LFS as well.
