Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Stock me up?

Have a freshly cycled circa 43 gallon (160litres) planted (not overflowing with plants, but I have a bit) tank.

I'm planning on putting mostly livebearers, though I like cories a lot.

I just put in 3 platies and 2 cories today, and I know I have to wait, but already thinking ahead.

What do you recommend I get? My policy for babies is to let them run around and try to hide, I'm not going to put them in a breeder box or anything, I prefer to let suvival of the fittest take place, there are some hiding places in the tank they can look out for.

Bear in mind that my LFSs may not stock everything, so multiple suggestions are appriciated.

Thanks.

fancy tailed guppies are my fav live bearer

and id get 5 or 6 more cories(all different varieties if you have them) eventually....

hope the 2 cories do ok as mine never do well in a newly cycled tank... maybe its the strain they keep around here .....pics pics pics dont forget

The only varieties I've seen around here are the bronze coloured ones, the slightly darker brown ones (which I got 2 of) and the albino ones (which look ugly according to me).

Cories shoal or something? The two I have seem to like each other's company, one keeps following the other, but he doesn't look as if he's bullying him or anything.

yep cories are definitely schoolers they love having a few friends to play with.

i'd go with a nice mix of different livebearers, platies, mollies, guppies, and then maybe a pair of GBR or bolivian rams

Ooh, that's for reminding me agabr...

I really like cichlids a lot, always wanted to keep a pair. Do you think they'd be allright with a lot of small fish?

Hmm, reading about the blue ram information, and it seems they're pretty fragile - also my pH is 7.5, and temperature 24 degrees.. the site says they prefer a lower pH and higher temperature.

Any more cichlids whjich go well in a community tank?

Also any numbers please? How many fish?
