Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

colorful stocking for 4 gallon BiOrb.

hi everyone! im really excited because my mom saw the 4gallon biorb at petco and loves it! she was asking me about stocking and wants either 3 or 5 fish in the tank! she wants it to be colorful but dosnt want the betta fish unless she could put some others in with it and im not to sure about that, i really dont want to pass up this chance of getting another tank and i want my mom to support my hobbie so badly so i need some help getting ideas on stocking that my mom would like. this is what i have so far:

1. 5 neon tetras/ is that too many?
2. 1 betta and 3 cherry shrimp/ would the betta hurt them?
3. 2 male guppies and 3 cherry shrimp.

thats all i have so far, i was thinking of some ottos with a betta but my mom wants lots of color. let me know is those would work or if you have more ideas just post them up. thanks for the help.

I think that a betta would be fine as long as the tank has a heater. I have kept bettas with cherry shrimp before and they have never hurt them, but you would be taking a chance. You couldn't keep more than 3 Neons in there. You could keep 3 Male guppies with the cherry shrimp. Personally, I would go for the betta, but that's just my opinion

Either the betta or the guppies. I'd go with three male guppies.

Are they the round type tank? For some reason, I remember reading they weren't good for bettas...possible the surface area wasn't big enough?

Hello Lucy

Yes, I heard the same, thats why I think the guppies are a better Idea.

Good to see you Alessa
Thanks, I thought that's what the problem was. I think heating was a problem also but I think they've come out with heaters for the bi-orb since then.
