Adding fish to my 20 gallon

Hey everyone. I'm back with another question (suprizing huh? Lol). Anyway I was planning on stocking my tank as so: 6 cherry barbs, 5 albino cories, and 2 GBR. If I added all 5 cories at a time or all 6 cherries would that just be overload? (I know the GBR go last so I'm not worried about them).
Thanks,
Joe

If your aquarium is newly cycled, to add that many fish at once could potentially cause it to mini-cycle.

If you have the equipment to set up a temporary Q-tank, what you could do is put 2-3 fish in the 20g and simultaneously a few (depending on its size) in the Q-tank, wait a few weeks then add the other fish one fish per week. This gives your biofilter time to adjust, doesn't stress the fish and allows you to monitor for signs of parasites/bacterial issues before you introduce them to your main tank.

Going through this process slowly is more important than what order you add the fish in.

I've stocked a 20g 3 times in the past 6 months (and I'm about to try it again). It's difficult and frustrating to go through so much waiting, but a problem in a 20g is a lot harder to deal with than a problem in a small Q-tank.

I think that only one GBR is best. I'm pretty sure that their the kind of cichlid aren't agressive towards other fish, but they are to their own kind. I think that with the 6 barbs, plus the cories, you will be overstocked. I would choose one or the other. Personally, i would go with cories for a clean up crew, plus they're fun to watch. But yes, add the GBR last.

EDIT- Prairie lily beat me to the QT part!

2 gbr's should be fine if you have a male and female, but you definitely want to add them last. they are VERY sensitive to water conditions

If you put 5 corys, 6 barbs and 2 rams you will be overstocked....so do 3 corys, 6 barbs and 1 ram and you still can have the fish you want! That looks sweet to me!

I have 3 Albino Corys and they are cute....I found the Peppered Cory to be more sensitive then the Albinos. I have 2 Peppered, had 3.

3 Corys @ 2.5" = 7.5"
6 Cherry Barbs @ 2" = 12"
1 Ram @ 3"? = 3"

Total: 22.5"

I was thinking if I got 5 cherries, 3 cories, and 2 GBR than would be ok as that is 23 inches of fish. Would his work out ok?
