Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Help stock a 29 gallon tank, please

Hey everyone I am hopefully going to get a 29 gallon tank soon and I was thinking I should plan out what Im going to stock it with. I have three different stocking Ideas and I would like you to choose the best one, also please let me know if it is overstocked and how I can fix it so it isnt overstocked. Also if you dont like any of the plans I have thought of, I will happily consider any of your plans on what YOU would do with a 29 gallon tank. Also I understand that alot of people will suggest getting a breeding pair of angelfish but I cannot get two because either they wont be a pair and will fight or they will have babies and I do not have any other tanks to put the babies in.Also if I could add more to the stocking plans please tell me.

Stocking plan #1
1 angelfish
7 cherry barbs(at my LFS males are priced $4 and females priced $2)
5 albino cories

Stocking plan #2
1 angelfish
9 golden pristilla tetras (priced $4 each)
5 albino cories

Stocking plan #3
1 angelfish
9 rummy nose tetras (priced $3.50 each)
5 albino cories

Stocking plan #4
UP TO YOU!

If you wanted to grow out a pair of angels, you don't have to keep the babies. They will get eaten if you leave them in the tank.

I like stocking plan #3 best.

I like Panda cories and Sterbai cories better than the albinos (Just my opinion)
I also really like dwarf neon rainbows as schooling fish. Rummynoses are gorgeous though!

Do you think that I could add more fish to stocking #3 or is that perfectly stocked?

P.S I would still love some more opinions from you other members too

Its actually a bit overstocked. I would cut it down to 8 rummynoses and 3 albino cories (they get big...3 inches each). Then you would have:

1 Angel: 6 inches
8 Rummynoses: 16 inches
3 Cories: 9 inches
Total: 31 inches

If you want more cories, go with pandas (they stay smaller....2 inches each) and get 4 of them

I really like Panda cories but they are just a little to pricey for the amount of Money I have right now at $8 each at my LFS

Wow, they are like $5 each at my LFS. You may want to shop around. Otherwise, I would go with three of the albinos

Yea my LFS is pretty pricey but they take great care of fish and know alot about them, so if I know I am getting a healthy fish I wouldnt mind paying an extra doller or two

got any glowlite tetras in your area? i really like them. bright orange stripe. or harlequin rasboras? nice red fish. both are shoaling fish.

you could look at a pearl gourami instead of an angel.

so...i guess it would look something like...
2 German Blue Rams. Male and female. = 6 in.
1 Angel/Pearl Gourami = 5 in.
6 Glowlites/Harlequins = 10 in.
3 Albino Corys = 9 in.

total of 30 inches.

I was looking at the glowlites today myself... stunning looking little things. I almost got some... I don't know where they fit into the mix... but I'm thinking about getting some in the future.

I would suggest option # 3. I love my rummynose tetras. They school really well and are colorful and active. I would get a pair of angels though and which ever type of cory stays the smallest.

If you don't want babies just let nature take its course. Rummynose will eat angel babies, Ive watched them do it many times.

Or maybe leave out the cories and get a pair of blue rams.

I like #3 except alter it a bit like MissMTS suggested.
It sounds like it's going to be a very pretty tank.

Or like suemvb suggests, leave out the cories and get a couple GBR they're gorgeous.
