Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Is this stocking plan overstocked?

Hey everyone you may have read my other thread about a stocking plan but how does this sound? A 10 gallon densley planted tank with plenty of driftwood in it.

Stocking plan:
1 male betta
1 bristlenose pleco

Can anyone share any tips on bristlenose plecos to people who have expireience with them? Also would this plan be overstocked? Or can I add more fish to it. Has anyone kept plecos with bettas? What are the chances of this working? would keeping a bristlenose pleco with plants work?

bio-load wise your safe i think.

bristle nose get up to 5", so the size of the tank might be a problem for it. i dont know the dimensions for a 10g, so i may be totally wrong as well.

Hmm, i've never heard of people keeping bettas with a bristlenose pleco, bettas usually can get along with the small otocinclus but im not sure if something as big as a bristlenose pleco would bother them.
Going to the inch per gallon rule, your tank is understocked but i wouldnt add anything else to this tank.

one of my betta's lived with my common pleco for a week, they got along just fine. may be a different story if the pleco wasnt twice the betta's size lol. i think you should do it, but i would add the pleco first, so the betta doesnt setup territory before you add the pleco

Yeah, you're fine with that tank. That's actually similar to a tank I have in mind...

i'm not sure that a 10 gallon would have enough of a footprint for a BN pleco to be comfortable, i'd go with one that gets even smaller such as a clown pleco if you're set on that, but i think that 3 otos would be a better choice
