Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Stocking options

While I was away, I lost 2 fish from my 20 gal. , so I now have some room to play with in that tank.
It currently houses:
2 female mollies, 2 rosy reds, 1 female betta

I also have a little room to play with in my 55 gal.
It currently houses:
4 cories, 1 BR parrot, 2 blind cave tetras, 1 female betta, 7 zebra danios, 1 clown pleco

Any ideas for stocking these tanks?

I also have an empty 10 gal. - maybe bettas from MM? Someone convice me that the $$ is worth it. That shipping is making my mom freak out on me.

For the 55, I'd get some more of those tetras. For the 20, hmmm... maybe a rubberlip or bristlenose pleco?

They don't even know the other exists....lol
I was thinking on the pleco, but I would rather get multiple fish rather than one fish with a large bio-load. It's a possibility though.

I just wish shipping wasn't so much!
I never really ever looked into how much it is before I started looking to buy more exotic bettas. From Thailand it's even more, right?

Maybe some neons for the 20? Or some sort of bottom feeder?

I was looking for kuhlis....too bad no one carries them around me.
And my LFS that buys from local breeders says that the stock is horrible & dying easily at the moment. So I'm holding off on them.
I may look at neons or cardinals for the 20. I was thinking of them for the 55, except my parrot would try to eat them.

Have you tried Wal Mart? That's where I got my black kuhlis. Only $2.04 each!

Wal-Mart is carrying fish covered in ICH, so I'm steering clear. They mostly sell live beareres & select tetras, common plecos, african cichlids (mixed), and oscars.

yeah believe me i know. with the ones from thailand, you pay the trans-shipper costs as well as the cost of shipping in the states, so it does end up being more

*smacks forehead*
my friend is trying to give me ANOTHER betta he doesn't want anymore...
looks like I'm going to have to hold out for a while again, until I have room.
