hello. i currently have a 40 gallon tank with a severum, polleni and common pleco. i have decided its time to move the pleco to a new home so im looking for some one to give him to. i was thinking of putting a couple pictus catfish to my tank. i read they are too fast for the cichlids to catch and are suitable tank mates. is this a good idea? thanks for any responses!

Oh I love Pictus cats. Yes, the are fine with your tank mates. Get at least 2 or 3. Just a note, Pictus cats are very active as you know. Also they have barbs on their fins and get caught in nets and can get hurt, so a plastic cup is best to catch them.

thank you for the advice. i was thinking of atleast two possibly three. i just hope i can find a good home for my pleco!

Yeah, I saw your thread on wanting to re-home him and get a smaller pleco/catfish, the Bristlenose Catfish! I am hoping to snatch one or two myself sometime this week or next for my 2 tanks. My LFS always has the common pleco/sailfins and they finally got BN in.

thanks everyone the pleco has been re homed in a 150 gallon =D the two cichlids still stand alone haven't made a final decision on catfish yet. they seem to be enjoying having the whole tank to themselves =P

Yes, that is def one of the catfish that are c ompatable with even africans.

pictus can go with africans? I know their tank requirements vary and will be fine but what about the agression? curious for my new setup hahah

With some catfish aggression isn't an issue. I have albino bushynose plecos in with my meanies and they have even bred for me. The pictus is a fast little guy and they should be fine with africans.
