My stocking plans so far for my 29 gallon are as follows:

4 mollies (12")
1 dwarf gourami (2.5")
1 female betta (1.5")
6 black kuhli's (9")

I have everything but 3 of the kuhli's right now. When I get the rest, I'll have a little stocking wiggle room. I was wanting to get another top or middle level fish or two. Suggestions? I want something at least semi ornate (what I consider to be semi ornate is a dwarf gourami), but I don't want to get another labrynth fish because of the 2 I already have.

What I think would be perfect is an African Butterfly Fish, but they cost $20 at the LFS and also I'm afraid they would have my other fish for lunch! So that's out...

Now that you get what I'm wanting, does anyone have a suggestion?

I forgot to say that after all of the fish I plan to stock, the ammount of room I have left will be about 5". I can go slightly over that, though.

Would an angelfish be OK with my gourami and betta?

I wouldnt go fully stocked with a betta in there...you will be cramping her and make her more stressed and more apt for her to strike out at others.....a gourami and a betta is asking for trouble IMO and 29 gals wouldnt be enough space with the others for them to be able to feel nonthreatening from one another..kuhlii's get 3-4 inches so 6 of them would be at least 18" ....

I'm skipping the angelfish and just going with the kuhli's.

Black kuhli's get to 3 inches, but I read that because of their low bio-load and their body shape that 2 can be counted as 1, making 6 equal 9 inches.

Also, I was pretty wary about the betta with the D.G, but both are very mild tempered and I ahven't seen any aggression so far.

i agree on the bio load but they need more space to swim ....they should be counted as 18"....but again, its your decision and im just giving you my opinion goodluck either way!


it will come out of no where so make sure you have aback up plan for one of them..because ill ALMOST garuntee it will happen

I do have a back up plan - I can put the divider back in the 5 gallon and put her with Mango.

pair of GBRs maybe? or if you can find them, a pair of borelli's dwarf cichlids?

I've decided to skip any fish except the 3 more black kuhli's.

My betta and gourami are still doing great - Sprite (DG) even blew a bubble nest today!
