| Suggestions For Stocking List Here :) Well, the title is pretty self explanatory To avoid clutter and confusion on the main stocking page, please post suggestions/ideas/etc here. For reference, here's the link to the actual stocking thread Work In Progress: Freshwater Community Stocking List

| Well, I think you could say that for under a 2.5g you could have small shrimps or small snails. But no fish obviously. Although with a tank that small it is very hard to keep water quality up and stuff.
I've found that if you get 1 male and 2 females you can actually have 3 in a 10g. But it's very important that there isn't more than one male, or you'll have big trouble on your hands. I think you could even fit 3 DPs and 3 otos if you are willing to make sure it works and keep up on water quality. Really in such a small tank, 50% weekly changes are not hard at all, it's what I always do. I'd say the actual bioload of a DP is about 2 gallons worth, but the space is obviously for territorial reasons.
Did you want help with the other sizes too? I can provide a few. And if I think of more I can add. Once you get above 10gs there's lots of options.
I'm not 100% sure on this (gallons-wise), but I think that 3 bumblebee gobies would work well with a F8 in 20gs. 2 F8s in the 29g.
Are we including GSPs? They are technically brackish, though it's easier to just keep them in SW I think. Saves $$$ on salt at least. One in 29g and 2 in 55g if you have excellent upkeep. Ceylons are also very similar in care but are a bit larger and need 40gs a piece I believe. They can be kept with GSPs with no problems. But again, they are kind of SW fish, so I don't know if these apply.
To the list of huge fish you could add the mbu puffer-1000g minimum
There are so many fish that can work in the larger aquariums it's hard to say....
You could add ropefish and bichirs to the 55+
And there's so many FW puffers that you could fit it's insane...
Starting at 20gs there's quite a few species, and it just goes up from there....
Let me know if you want me to list them. They are kind of specialty fish, so I don't know if that's what you want on this list.
Great post by the way, very helpful. |

| hmm, i think that i'll keep out the 1 male 2 female thing only because even i have trouble sexing them!
absolutely, i'm including as many of the "standard" aquarium sizes as i can.
i thought about including the GSPs, but i guess they would technically be classified as "saltwater" fish so i'm kind of on the fence about it.
i'd love to include specialty fish, for the larger aquariums you can basically just multiply the number of neon tetras for a bigger tank but wouldn't necessarily know about the more unique fish. |

| Ok....
The so-called "Avocado Puffer", which could actually be one of two similar species, needs a 20g FW
Fahaka puffer needs 125 FW
South American needs 15gs FW each, but like living in groups (I think 3+ is good), and are 'community with caution: fin-nippers', unlike most puffers which are species only or specimen only.
Any of the red-eyed puffer species need 20gs FW
Baileyi needs 25g FW
Arrowhead/hognose need 30g FW
Congo (miurus) needs 30g FW
Abei needs 25g FW
Other than the F8s, pretty much all BW puffers I know of can also be SW, so I will pass on them.
I'll keep thinking on other oddballs and such and get back to you |

| great, thanks! i'm also trying to look around the site for what members keep in their tanks, but i can't find anything to search for that other than taking the time to go through everyone's aquarium info, which would take HOURS.....hmm..... |

| This is a link from another forum that I found helpful when I was first starting out (before the days of FishLore...) I no longer agree with all the stated recommendations, but you may find some of it helpful.
Great idea btw |

| If you need a list of all the common (and some not so common!) schooling fish under 8cm - I did this a while ago: http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/412021-post16.html
Also, I think Black pacus and Red-tailed Catfishes need a mention on post #7. And, I'd add common plecos to post #7 with a little note saying that whilst they don';t need 300gal, they get way too big for many potential pleco buyers tanks.
And, what is an AFB doing on the 10gal suggstions? They need at least a 20gal. You could put them on the 20 gal with fish like mollies or large (8cm) tetras.
And, on 4 of the 20gals, I'd up the Hatchet count to 8, as they can be very difficult to keep in sixes for some reason. Last edited by Blub; March 9th, 2009 at 03:42 AM.

The way I found out that info was by researching if my 12gal would have been suitable for an ABF - but it appears they need a 20gal so I got Black neons and Humpback limias for my 12gal instead. |

| yeah, i was thinking about just putting "snail" but it's probably best to be more specific so people don't have an apple snail the size of a grapefruit in their 10 gallons! |

| Hey Alex,
Is there any way to add a side note to one of your stocking suggestions?
When you listed an angelfish in the 20 gallon setup, could you add a note that it must be a regular 20 gallon, not a 20 long? 20g longs are to shallow for angels |
