Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

over stocked?

i have a 32 gallon tank and i was wanting to get:
- 4 or 5 ottos
- 3 guppies
- 7 or 8 black skirt tetras
- i wanna get 2 angelfish but would that be over stocked

what you think about that?

I would ditch the angels and if it is a new tank wait on the otto's. Wait until you get some algae going for the otto's before putting them in, that would be my advise.

You could get a pair of angelfish if you ditch the tetras... they might nip at the angel. If you do want angels, then I would recommend getting cories instead of guppys, as they might become snacks or get nipped. The cories and otos wouldn't bother the angelfish, and the angelfish most likely won't bother them back.

in a 32 i'd go with either a pair of angels and 5 otos (for some reason they like to be in odd numbered groups ), OR the otos, guppies, and tetras, but IMO having both would be overstocked.

oh, and with the angels unfortunately you can't just put two in a tank and expect them to pair off (i wish!). the only way to get a pair is to either buy a proven breeding pair (which can get expensive), or to buy six juvenile angels and wait for a pair to emerge, and then return/rehome/sell the rest
