Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Moving fish from one tank to another

I have five tanks and I'm trying to get the perfect blend of community fish. If the tanks are well established, from the same water supply and about the same water parameters, can I move a fish from one tank to another without acclimating them? Can I catch a fish in a small container (I use a betta tank because that's all they're good for) and slowly sink the container into the other tank so the fish can swim out itself without any stress?

i would acclimate them anyways, every tank is different no matter how hard we try to keep everything uniform. it's a good idea to let the fish swim out on it's own using the container like you said, i'd just use that time to pour a little water from the container out and add water from the new tank in for about 15 minutes and then let them swim out
