i wouldnt go with any less than 3 otos, five would be preferable (for some reason they seem to like being in odd numbers ).

You could probably get about 5 otos in a tank that size. You could also get a lot more neon tetras too, like 20.

| What kind of corys are you plannng on? As you probably know, they vary greatly in size (from about 3-12cm) depending on the species.
20 Neons would fit in a tank, but not if there where 10 3" Bronze corys in there. 10 would be more sensible - but that would be pushing it a bit when the Neons are full grown. |

I have mixed corys,I've done my math already on stocking my tank 10 corys= about 20-24 inches of fish. im thinks of having 4 neons tetras or cardinals & 4 Harlequin Rasbora which would come out to about 37 inch's of fish with the corys.

neons need to be kept in groups of no less than 5 and even that is pushing it.

sorry that's not an opinion I love my cory's they come first.

if they come first then you need to not get the other fish. either pick the neons and give them a full school or do the same with the rasboras. IMO it isn't fair to them to jeopardize their needs because you want more cories.

maybe 2 Dwarf Gourami, is it possible to keep to female in a 40 gal.?

Its best to only have 1 gouramis per tank, and its hard to find females because they aren't as colorful, so fish stores don't stock them as much.

10 cory's= 20-24 inch's, 3 neons 3 cardinals= 9 inch's <-both school together, 2 Dwarf Gourami= 6 inch's= total of 39 inch's ,sounds good

do Dwarf Gourami like water current or mellow water??

I'm pretty sure they prefer mellow water, as they are mellow fish. But as for the tetras, I would just get one big school of one of them instead of the separate fish. And more than six... like 10.
