Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

I have no idea what to stock!

Ive got a 50G tank cycling as we speak and its getting close to finished now, (hopefully).

The guy i bought it off is dropping off the fish that came with the tank on saturday i believe so they will be going in. He has told me there are only a few of them and that they are small. From the pictures i saw in the advert they look like platys to me.

So i dont have a clue what to stock, but its got to be kind of based around smaller fish like platys.
If anyone has an idea of bigger fish that could be kept (that eat platys) i guess i could move the platys into one of my other tanks.
All suggestions are appreciated, because i really dont know where im going with this tank at the moment.

Maybe some mollies, swordtails, angelfish, cories, neon tetras, cardinal tetras, rasboras, or guppies. If you went with bigger fish maybe a pleco, some semi-aggressive chichlids or something like that. I don't know if this helps, but I hope it does.

That sounds great . Maybe platys for the top & middle layer. Harlequins for the middle and corydoras for the bottom.
