Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Am I overstocked or could I go more?

I have a 65 gallon artificial tank(36x18x24) that I do a 20% water change on twice a month. Tank mates are:
1 opaline gourami
6 cherry barbs
8 scissortail rasboras
6 black sail cory cat
1 pleco
1 rainbow shark
Would like to go to a low light planted tank. Any suggestion on fish or plants?

welcome to fishlore!!
you are about 68" of fish without the pleco..so id say you are already at capacity or over.....depending on what type of pleco, your way over...but im assuming if this tank has been going for 3 years, you are doing something right but I would not add anymore

plantgeek.com is a good site for plants....

i agree with shawnie, and the type of pleco is definitely a big factor

for low-light plants, i'd suggest java fern, java moss, and anubias. they're pretty easy to keep (i've managed to keep them alive ) and are pretty hardy as well
