I keep hearing that I should not buy my fish from the big chain pet stores, and quite honestly, I haven't had a whole lot of the luck with the fish I have purchased from them, so there must be some truth to the matter. If, in fact, this is true, where can I purchase my fish? I would like to get some fish that start off healthy and don't make my other fish sick.

you can search around for small fish stores in your area, or you can look for local breeders. you can even look for breeders that are further away that would ship to you. IMO it's the best way to get fish you can also search the buy/sell/trade threads on this forum and others, and look on aquabid.com

Thanks! I will check those. There are no small fish stores in my area. I regularly check craigslist for people trying to sell, but haven't seen much on there. What is IMO? I'm looking for angelfish.

oh, it means in my opinion, sorry! definitely check on aquabid for angelfish, there are a LOT, and i think there is a way to check the profile of the person that's selling them to see if they are reputable, or a lot of times they give a website or something.

you might try finding a localized aquarium club. im in a club that covers my entire state, so all the major towns are well covered and everybody knows about every little fish shop around. plus they have monthly meetings and such where they auction anything aquarium related.

just go to google and search for <your state> aquarium club hopefully you will find something out.
